Our 2001 team was unbelievably good

Marty, Stevens, Nieds, Elias, Arnott, Sykora, Mogilny, Gomez, Rafalski, Madden, Holik, McKay

Led the league in goals scored, 3rd in goals against.

Goddamn Avalanche :(

Forgot how good 2009 roster was. It was the 100th anniversay of the team and management went all in with guys like Tanguay and Lang. Injuries ruined the season and we got swept by Boston 1st rd. But with a bit of luck, this lineup could have gotten further.

Tanguay - Koivu - Kovalev
S. Kostitsyn - Lang - A. Kostitsyn
Higgins - Plekanec - Latendresse
Kostopoulos - Metropolit - Lapierre

Laraque, D'Agostini, Dandenault, Pacioretty as extras (only played 34 games that year)

Komisarek - Markov
Hamrlik - Brisebois
Schneider - Gorges

Bouillon as an extra

Price
Halak

Red Wings:
2002 by far (Shanahan, Yzerman, Fedorov, Chelios, Hull, Robitaille, Hasek, Lidstrom, Larionov, Datsyuk = 9 HoF'ers and 10 when Datsyuk gets in)
1997 (still had Konstantinov)
1998 (same as 1997 minus Konstantinov)

Our recent teams have been a joke talent-wise.

97 was my favorite.
02 was the best team to ever hit NHL ice.
This very moment is the wings worst imo.

That 2002 team was insane:
- 1st in wins
- 1st in points
- 2nd most goals for
- 2nd on the PP
- 3rd fewest goals against

Not to mention, Yzerman missed 2 months with a knee injury and Lidstrom got hurt late season and the Wings went winless in their last 7 games.

They dominated the regular season and won the Cup.

The best team ever topic comes up on this board and the 02 team usually runs away with it, with a few that mention the 01 Avs which was close.

Lancaster NY
Buffalo. Doing Player(point total). Not actual lines, just ranking by scoring and poisition.

Best
(1.) 2005-2006
Vanek (48) - Drury (67) - Afinogenov (73)
Hecht - (42) - Briere (58pts in 48 games) - Kotalik (62)
Dumont (40pts in 52 games) - Connolly (55 pts in 63 games) - Pominville (30 pts in 57 games)
Roy (46 points in 70 games) - Gaustad (24) - Grier (23)

Campbell(44)-Numminen(40)
Lydman - Tallinder
McKee - Kalinin

Miller
Biron

(2.) 2006-2007
Vanek (84) - Briere (95) - Pominville (68)
Afinogenov (61) - Drury (69) - Kotalik (38)
- Roy (63) - Stafford (27pts in 41 games)
Gaustad (22pts in 54 games) - Hecht (56) - Depth
Connolly shelved due to injury, back for playoffs

Campbell - Numminen
Lydman - Tallinder
Kalinin - Spacek

Miller
Biron

(3.)2000-2001
I didn't watch this team but Hasek was in his prime unlike 92-93 and they had a better record than that team despite that team having ludicrous offensive numbers from Mogilny/LaFontaine. But there are probably a couple candidates for this spot.

Worst
(1.) 2014-2015
This team had two more points than 13/14 but had a bizarre win streak in December that disguised how bad they were. This team shattered records of incompetency in modern stats. They also had a 14 game regulation losing streak in which their shot differential was worse than -30 several times IIRC. There were two games that season where this roster failed to get 12 shots on goal...against 1 team (Tampa).
Girgensons - Ennis - Moulson
Foligno - Hodgson - Gionta
Flynn - Mitchell - Stewart
Kaleta - Ellis - Stafford/Larsson/Varone/Dalpe

Zadorov - Ristolainen
Weber - Gorges
Meszaros - Benoit/Strachan/Myers/Bogosian(last two traded for each other)

Enroth
Neuvirth

(2.) 2013-2014
The previous team but insert D'agostini, Leino, Ott, Tallinder, Scott for the rookie D/Gionta/Stewart.

(3.) 2002-2003.
Didn't watch this one, can't say much about it but it was a bad season.

Even though our PP and goalie have sucked this season, if you give us last year's version of those things we actually improve our goal differential of last season by nearly double. So 5v5 they're actually not worse than last season (Their stars are all having their best 5v5 seasons of their time here but they're pacing to lose more than a dozen goals from the bottom six, I think closer to 20 actually) so that gets canceled out but their shots against has gone from 28th to 13th, and they've decreased high danger scoring chances against as well). That's why I didn't include this season's roster even though they're pacing for the third-worst season in that stretch. 02-03 had nothing like Jack (not sure if they had anything like ROR).

Oilers.

Best:
  • '89-90 (hail Messier)
  • '00-01 (hail Weight)
  • '05-06 (hail Pronger)

Maybe '16-17 instead of '00-01.

Worst:
  • '92-93
  • '09-10
  • '14-15

But also '93-94, '94-95, '09-10, '10-11, '11-12, and '13-14.

Periods of pure darkness:
  • '92-96
  • '07-15
  • '17-present
Really thought McDavid was the way out of pure darkness.

You're asking people to do research spanning 28 years, and post 6 full rosters. It's kind of a cool thread idea, but you're asking for a bit too much.

Worst for Toronto is probably 08-09. That was the year after Sundin, but before Kessel and Phaneuf.

Blake - Antropov - Ponikarovsky
Hagman - Stajan - Stempniak
Kulemin - Grabovski - Mitchell
Moore - Mayers - Devereaux
Hollweg - May - Tlusty

Kubina - Kaberle
White - Finger
Schenn - Stralman
Van Ryn - Frogren

Toskala
Joseph
Pogge

In 3 or 4 years, almost everyone on that roster was out of the NHL. All 3 of those goalies posted a S% below 900.

That is... something else.

Kings best, I'd say 2011-12, 2013-2014, and 1992-93

Worst... eh. 1996-97, 1998-99, 2006-07

The 90-91 Kings have to be in the best 3 somewhere. 3rd best record in the league, 3rd in GF, 4th in GA, a +86 goal differential which led the league. The Kings just could not beat the Oilers in the playoffs again after coming back from down 3-1 in 1989.

2011-12

Best 3:
01-02: Francis, Brindy, Wesley, Weekes, Kapanen, O'Neill, Vasacek (RIP)
08-09: Staal, Corvo, Eaves, Ruutu, Cole, Whitney, J.Jokinen(JUICE), Babchuk, Seidenburg, Pitkanen, Gleason, Prime Ward,
05-06: 100 Point Staal, Prime Brindy, Ward, Pre-Playoff Gerber, Prime Whitney, Prime Cole, Prime Stillman, Wesley, Commodore, F.Kabere, A.Ward, Recchi, Williams, Cullen, Hedican
Worst 3:
14-15: Only good players was E.Staal and Faulk. Rest of the team you can throw in the trash
03-04: No E.Staal. Most Our best players were on the wrong side of their career and our depth was bad. Weekes was the only reason we were slighty competitive that season
97-97: Kapanen, Wesley and Primeau were our only good players. Rest of the team was meh/bad

Sometimes I wonder why I feel like I was a Hurricanes fan in another life. Then someone reminds me that I am a huge fan of almost their entire roster during the 2000's decade. Francis, Brind'Amour, Eric Staal. Seriously, 3 of my all time favourites.
