Devils Team Scope:
After struggling by their standards this season over the past month, New Jersey is starting to find its footing as the playoffs near. The Devils have won three of their last four games including last night against the Blackhawks.
In that win,
Dougie Hamilton registered his 20th goal of the season and 71st point. the 20 goals ranks him first all-time as the only defenseman in team history to score 20 in a season.
Jack Hughes netted his 88th and 89th points of the season and is now tied for fifth all-time in points by a Devil in one season.
The win also helped the Devils keep pace with the Carolina Hurricanes, remaining one point behind, though Carolina continues to hold a game in hand. Carolina plays the Islanders tonight. Devils are also five points up on the Rangers with both teams having played 76 games in the crucial race to potentially determine home ice advantage in their expected first-round match-up.
Jets Team Scope:
The Jets had a fast start to the season and found themselves in first or second in the Central Division for a lot of the season but in their last 22 games, they are 8-12-2 and as a result, they're fighting for their playoff lives. They sit two points ahead of the Flames and three points ahead of the Predators. The Preds have a game in hand on the Jets.
Kyle Connor leads the Jets with 77 points in 76 games this season, including 29 goals. Mark Scheifele is the team's leading goal scorer with 39 which is a career high. Defenseman Josh Morrissey has 69 points in 73 contests. His previous career high was 37 points which was achieved last season. He's tied with Dougie Hamilton for third in the NHL.
By the Numbers:
Devils are 22-4-5 against Western Conference opponents this season.
Tomas Tatar has 21 points in 24 career games against the Jets.
Ondrej Palat has 15 points in 17 career contests versus Winnipeg. Scheifele has 11 goals and 22 points in 15 games in his career against the Devils as well as a +14 rating.
The Devils are 6-5-1 in the first half and 9-2-0 in the second half for back-to-back sets this season. The team's nine wins in second half games played are tied for the most in the NHL with Boston, but Jersey's .818 points percentage for second half games ranks first in the NHL. Tonight concludes the last of the team's back-to-back sets this season.
