Yeah read in between the lines on Ruff's comments. He doesn't know what Toronto would've ruled because no one does because the rules are subjective sometimes. It's a mess.

I'm glad ruff didn't do anything, we could have lost the game in Regulation on a PK............. it sucks to be in a position to not want to fight for that challenge, but i think Ruff made the right move here.

The puck was not even off his stick before contact. Honestly, if he doesn't run Mac, he may not even have the angle to get the puck in the net.

Looked just about simultaneous to me even in slo mo. You can very well be correct. I still don’t think we can be confident as to winning that challenge. And if you lose you are killing a penalty. As it turned out, a good no challenge. But that’s hindsight too right, because we now know we tied it up.

Still. If the league is trying to protect goalies that shouldn’t be a goal.

yeah you can’t challenge but it easily could have been a no goal/no penalty on incidental contact on the ice

I know it’s crazy, but could you make a case the refs could have ruled it a good goal and then assessed a roughing penalty for action during play stoppage?

I think the Devils would have lost the challenge but it does seem silly that you can give the goalie a concussion and score and face no penalty. It only encourages players to run goalies and hope the puck slides in(or off their stick) before massive contact.

Unfortunately, I agree with his assessment.

If we challenge and god forbid it stands, then we’re killing a PP when we’re down 1 and need a goal.

His assessment is spot on and highlights the huge problem the league has with consistent officiating. When you get to see a replay and have no idea which of 4 ways the call might go, that's kind of an issue.

Replying again because you are 100 percent right, after watching repeatedly, he elbows Blackwood before putting the backhand in. That should not have counted.

We played well and it’s unfortunate we didn’t get the win in the shoutout but we came back to get a point when in years past, when down a goal or two, there was just no way I’d even consider a comeback.

Yea I think at worst you have the goal count, but give a penalty. But I don't think it should have counted at all.

The advanced stats probably don't back it up but that Smith-Severson pairing is a disaster viewing it with my own eyes. They were both pinching at the same times early in the game leaving forwards or nobody to cover for them. Watch Severson skate back when that happens. 1 out 10 times he puts any effort in coming back. Smith at least tries. Neither one of them seems to have a brain for playing defense and should be separated, but I don't know how they'd do it since Graves and Hamilton have to stay together and Siegenthaler is carrying Subban right now.

Damon has one assist in his last 10 games. More penalties than points. Smith has had 2-3 good games all year.

I hate them on the powerplay too together. Neither one of them even gives off a threat of shooting. Having Smith, Severson and Bratt on the PP all at once must be the easiest PK for the other team. They only need to cover the two other guys, because none of those three will ever shoot the puck and just pass it to each other over and over before losing control or trying to pass it through 3 defenders for the easy clear.

How excellent has Jesper Bratt been the last 10 games.

Edit: In last 9 games, he has 4 goals and 7 assists for 11 points total. I also think he's 2 for 2 in shootouts ( Off top of my head) @glenwo2 must be a proud Bratt fan these days.

I am always proud of Bratt....when he doesn't play like horse-POOPY!! :p:

And to his credit, he hasn't played like that but like the Bratt I know and expect.

Hope he keeps it up and doesn't need to be "motivated" again (ala benching)...

2 weeks ago I thought Bratt would be moved ala Henrique..

Nope

2 weeks ago, I thought Bratt turned back into a pumpkin.

Geez, there wasn't even anyone near him

There is a worse one in my memory but I can’t find video.

I believe it’s Franzen but maybe it’s Holmstrom; he’s set up about 2 feet outside the crease and 3 feet from the goalie. They never get closer than a few feet away and there is no contact.

Ref immediately waives it off for interference. it’s possibly the worst call ever but the above link is right there with it.

That pairing is a nightmare from a hockey iq/responsible puck management standpoint.

If Fitz can nab a second pairing guy who’s more responsible in his own end via trade or FA, I wouldn’t even think twice about letting Damon walk especially for the price he’s probably going to demand. Ty can fulfill the role Sev’s has been playing on this team and we’d be better balanced and more stable defensively.

Can I ask why as an organization we have never sat Severson? His play led the Ranger right back into this game. We were literally putting pressure on them and Sevo pinches to create a breakway, SMITH covers him. Puck gets loose in front of the and Sevo gives it to the best offensive D in the league. Also, if it was just that one play Id say it was a fluke.....but that happened 2 other times before that goal. Hamilton is a high risk , high reward....Sevo is just making dump pinches and plays. Dude simply cannot read plays, OH lets not forget that he stayed on the ice the last two mins of OT instead of getting Dougie out. Our Fwd changed twice while he stayed out there. He was exhausted when the Rangers finally got possession and almost scored because he couldnt keep up.

Ty has been uniformly awful this season. Severson had a bad game last night for sure, he was fighting it all night, but he has been generally solid.
