Mean all time? Finnish Leagues "Gretzky", Raimo Helminen, played World Championships and Olympics at age of 16.

Helminen was born in 64, played in his first Olympics in 84, and in his first world championship the following year. Nowhere close from being 16.

I remember teenagers line Reichel-Jagr-Holik in 1990 in Switzerland.

edit: Jagr was 18 (born 15.2.1972), Reichel 19 (born 25.6.1971), Holik 19 (born 1.1.1971)

If not the youngest individuals ever, definitely one of the youngest line ever.

I remember that line too! All three had cages on. I love to get a hold of tapes from that tournament. Those three were really fun to watch.

BTW Reichel have the record for pts in a WCH, right? (Or only modern history?)

no clue about WCH but I´m sure with 22 assists, he´s joined 2nd in assist in history of WJC (89,90) along with Esa Keskinen (84,85). 1st best assister is Peter Forsberg with 32 (92,93)

I would love to see this line on tape, too. The most exciting youngsters line I´ve ever seen.

Mark Howe at the OG-1972 at Sapporo, winning silver, at 16...

Nope, Howe was young, but the youngest was Hungary's Sándor Miklós who was 15 years, 10 months and 17 days old when he played his first game at the 1931 World Championships in Krynica. He is the only player under 16. Aside from Howe there are seven other players who were 16 when they played at the World Championships (Highest level) and Olympic Games.

For this tournament Nick Latta (born Oct 5, 1993) might be one of the youngest players as well as Nail Yakupov (born Oct 6, 1993) insofar he has made the final Russian WJC team.

I think there have been younger players in the WJC. This thread is for the WC that happen in, I believe, April.

If you are looking for the youngest to play in the WJC, I would think that Andrei Kostitsyn would be among the youngest. He played in the 2001 WJC as a 16 year old.

Crosby was the youngest to score a goal in the WJC at 16 years 4 months and something. Not sure if it's been broken.

Isn't Olli Määttä 16 years 10 months though?

He was born August 22nd, so no. He will become the youngest Finn to play in this tournament, beating Reijo Ruotsalainen's record. Btw, Ruotsalainen had 2 goals and 3 assists in 7 games in his tournament, I doubt Määttä will have that many points.

Määttä is the youngest player and is 10 months younger than Yakupov...

1. Määttä -94 August 22.
2. Yakupov -93 October 6.
T3. Latta -93 October 5.
T3. Frk -93 October 5.

These are the youngest players. Everyone is 2012 draft eligible if I'm right. Määttä only 1994 born player.

Wasn't Wayne Gretzky 16 years and 11 months when he played in the '77 World Juniors? I see that he was beaten by on of the Finns mentioned earlier.

Seems to me Mario Lemieux and Eric Lindros also played as 16 year olds too.

I don't remember the details really but I seem to recall someone being 14 that played in one of the low pools (either D Pool or Division III). I can't recall which country he was from, but it was a warm weather nation, like Mexico or South Africa or something like that.

The question was about the WC not the WJC.
