I started writing up a long post about various things but it wasn't as detailed as I would like. The main contribution I have that isn't immediate common sense would be a bad contract swap of Myers. Maybe aim for Okposo or Henrique as they have very similar cap hits but a year remaining. If you're lucky, can do a one-for-one swap by selling that Myers is the better player. Hard part would be everyone has modified no-trade clauses.
Overall the biggest thing would be set a clear and concise direction for the club. At this point the President/GM needs to have a firm plan of action and make moves that build towards that to gain confidence of the team then the fans. Top priority is identifying a style and bringing in the right coach to enforce that style. I'd also focus on re-signing Hughes, Petersson, and Edler. The most challenging aspect will be rebuilding the defence quickly. Ideally you a defensive core of Schmidt, Hughes, and Edler (Myers has been moved out in my scenario). With lottery luck you grab a top-defenceman early on that is either ready immediately or only needs a year of seasoning. Hopefully can take advantage of the weird salary landscape and sign 1-2 decent defencemen to short or mid-term (1-3 years) contracts. Another need that is key to future success is to get an actual 3rd line centre, either through trade or signing. Hell, plumb the depths of the foreign leagues and see if there's a defensive wizard somewhere. On top of all that, the expansion draft needs to be addressed.
