Did the Hawks send Yakubov back to the AHL? They kept Vorobiev up, as well as Leighton and Rutuu, but I didn't see any mention of Yakubov.

He was sent down fairly early into camp.

Yakubov was one of the earlier cuts. He's unfortunately stuck behind Zhamnov Arnason and Ruutu. Management knew that and wanted him to report to Norfolk sooner rather than later. He had a good camp, and for a while some thought he might win the 3rd line center job by forcing Ruutu to play as a left wing. Now his best opportunity is that someone is injured or the hawks trade Zhamnov at the deadline (last year of contract).

I think they feel as if they hurt his confidence some last season by keeping him up so long. This camp, they sent him down to Norfolk early- as we are pretty solid up the middle.

I think he is definately in the long term plan for the hawks. His biggest problem seemed to be effort- and that didn't seem to be an issue this camp. If he ever beefs up... look out.
