He's a 4/5 defenseman if you have followed his career
He got this contract because there were other teams interested. He was the top available UFA.

He has a career average 18:51 ice time and will not look out of place among the hodgepodge of Safeway Select defenseman
not named Carlson that Washington ices every night, who are all likewise signed to even larger contracts.
