I think Trouba is every bit a solid 2/3 as Morgan Reilly.

I'd agree with this.
I don't think either is a legit #1 D. (To be fair I don't think there are 30 #1 Ds so maybe my ranking are wrong)
But either way, I see him as being a good #2 d man on a team. Him paired with another #2 would be a good top pair though.

I haven't seen the offensive upside or dominant possession play to call him a #1.

It’s a smart call on his part. Protect the brand, which is him. Don’t give the fans anything to make you the fall guy. He saw what happened to Kane and how the fans reacted to his contract dispute in 2016.

Social media today as an outlet is harsh. One wrong word or tweet or post from trouba and the fans will turn on him as some have during this arbitration. Best to not fan the flames.
