So after this and the Duchene buyout... The lesson is act like an insufferable spoiled brat and you will get rewarded with a massive buyout and UFA status that lets you sign another another massive contract!

I respect Wheelers effort on the ice and the contributions he made to the community.

No one is perfect, but, I'm glad both he and the Jets recognized that it was time to move one.

All the best Blake.

Sure, we'll take him for cheap. And if he pouts like Kassian did, sit his arse in the press box.

Although I will say, him not getting a sniff of the cup no matter where he ends up would be total karma.
Why would he pout? If Wheeler did end up on Arizona it would be because he willingly signed a contract to be there (which he would never do anyways). You do realize he is now UFA right?

The Jets already had ~$10 million in cap space and the only significant free agent needing to be signed is Vilardi and possibly Namestnicov.

Are they going to let Kupari, Barron and Stanley walk? They may not deserve significant contracts, but if they average $1.5m each (which is reasonable), that's a big chunk of the $9m in cap space gone, even before you get to Vilardi or a backup G.

He is a PP specialist nowadays, anyone thinking he would be great signing for their top-6 is gonna be dissappointed, would probably still be a decent pick up for lower lines on cheap.

If all you have is misinformation or no knowledge of the situation *checks notes* don't post some wild shit as facts.
It’s ok if you don’t know he scored 40 points at even. Hardly useless 5 on 5.

The majority of his output last year was at even strength, I would say his days as a PP quarterback are what is really over. He can still put up 55-60 points a year. Maybe more in the right situation.

Last year he had 55 points. 40 of those came at even strength and only 15 points on the PP.

The Central division is a joke. Another buyout with very little to nothing to gain and plenty to lose (another year of that aging core going nowhere). The only gain would be for being in cap hell with young talent or wanting some price free agent. Neither is the current situation for the Jets.

I am happy for all the things he has done for this team and this city.
I am also happy his time has come to an end. It was time.

Problem I have is that his cap hit drastically outweighs his production.

He would still be serviceable down the line up with the right cap hit.

He will land in his feet somewhere for sure.

All the best Blake and the wheeler family.

It's the end of an era and it's sad to see him go.

Wish him nothing but the best in the future. The team did some exciting things with him on it.

That being said this is HUGE because we've so desperately needed a culture change. Very excited to see how things go from here.

Someone will take him for cheap ala Perry and Parise and Suter.

I think the Penguins would be interested.
I completely agree, a 2 year deal with Penguins would fit what I think Dubas is trying to accomplish in Pittsburgh, try to maximize whatever you have with our core while not sacrificing the future.

He might retire. He's made enough money and is clearly going down the hill. Why drag it out and become a problem for another fanbase?

Winnipeg really shot their cup window in the foot keeping him for as long as they did.

They slammed it shut with that extension and it got pretty dank in the room.
