Qatar: perfect case study of the treatment of migrant labour under capitalism

SEPH: ah yes, a communism!
It seems I don't have the same level of feelings on the systems of government that you do, but revoking passports to prevent people from leaving most definitely isn't capitalistic principles based on historic examples. Actually, a lot of capitalistic nations in Europe and America do their best to prevent people from entering lol. But you can see right now in this world that two communistic regimes do a great job at keeping people in on the subject of death; North Korea and Venezuela. But hey, if you want to be a communistic apologist, fine by me, just remember that the Soviet Union killed more people than the evil Nazi party did.

Hmm USA (or Poland) winning the WC or New York Red Bulls winning CONCACAF Champion's League (or even Club World Cup)???

Definitely the World Cup. Would be monumental for both of my countries, for different reasons. I'm also probably a little biased as my first love with the sport was the international game and then club followed.

If my actual country (Canada) were to win the World Cup, that EASILY.

Between a Chelsea Champions League win and a World Cup for the team I root for in international competition (England), I take a Chelsea UCL win comfortably. I only have started softly supporting England because of the Chelsea contingent, so I'd obviously pick a Chelsea success over theirs.
This, though I don't typically follow England.

I think you can t compare both competitions. With a NT you can only play wtih native players. With the club you can buy players from e.g. foreign countries. To win the WC with NT is much more difficult, because the complete youth work depend on it. You need for this decades sometimes. A rich club could be buy easily top players. Than we ve the situation the a PL-Club could win the CL with 11 foreigen players.

I may be wrong but I find more English fans would rather their club have win over their national team. For the rest of Europe it is the opposite.
I don't know what it would be like if England had a sense of achievement and e.g. would win the World Cup? If England were more successful (e.g. 3 or 4 world champions), the national team would have a much higher priority.
They just don't have enough success

Probably still pretty true. They’d care for the month of the World Cup but I don’t think it would have a lasting impact on the game here.
It had in France.
Platini started the thing. With their 80s success, the young kids all wanted to play football and the clubs (for many reasons) got better structure. Also the 84 Euros helped build new stadiums.
Then the 90s generation which was a fan of that 80s. Ended up with a double 98/00. New stadiums again for the 98 WC and a new passionate generation that resulted in the 2016 (new stadiums again)/2018 Euro final, WC winner.
Success breeds success.

You’re right for the most part. I think you’d see an increase in viewing of the MLS and EPL in the US but it wouldn’t be much because most people watching the World Cup are already into the game on some level.

Basically. And for the people who aren't into soccer treat the World Cup like the Olympics. They care about a sport(s) that they don't care about except for the one month that a huge world event is happening.

A lot of people watch the Super Bowl and not another game for the rest of the year as well.

That happens more for the World Series than throwball. MLB gets insane ratings for the finals - beats the NBA Finals - because nobody cares about the sport until they get to watch the final seven games between two teams. the Stupid Bowl is more of an "entertainment" event like the WWE than an actual sporting event. I know people who just watch it for the commercials and other who just watch it for the half-time show that could careless about the sport itself.

The World Series USED to have insane ratings.

The whining that would occur if the US ever won the world cup would probably make the sport unwatchable after.

Even if the US were to knock out a European/South American power it would cause quite the stir.

I remember when they tied England back in the 2010 WC. The English were pretty peeved they couldn't beat the Yanks. lol

I didn't even want to bring up politics, someone responded to me and I just responded back. Don't get me wrong in regards to capitalism sucks too, but I consider it the less of all evils in terms of governmental types (also has helped many people out of poverty). Naziism and Soviet Union if you'd include the Mao regime are some of the most evil to ever exist in human history, I hope you're not disagreeing with that?

Also Qatar isn't even capitalistic, it's a monarchy ruled by the Āl Thānī family with free healthcare and education making it more socialist in nature.
Qatar - Government and society

We arent turning this into political thread. That ends now.

As far as America goes, they are never winning this competition in my lifetime. Just too many problems wrong with the sport in the country. I do think that them doing well in a world cup could help the popularity of the game, but that would take years.

I never said there weren't in the WC, but like I said in my post I think majority of the most epic WC moments are just overhyped and surrounded by a lot of controversy; we can now add Qatar's communistic-slavery tactics to the list. CL might be uber boring, but that's because they let in rubbish clubs from Southeastern Europe like Romania, Czech, Ukraine, etc., while beautiful clubs like Arsenal and in La liga do not get allowed into the tournament for some ridiculous reason. But again, a lot of the issues you might have about the CL also happens in the WC and even more severe. I don't know how anybody can find certain matches fascinating like Russia vs Cameroon, but because it's the World Cup it's supposed to be "amazing" and it never lives up with the hype. That's why I prefer tourney's like Euro, AFCON, and Copa América where there are actual rivalries being represented. Nobody cares about Mexico vs Poland, there's nothing behind this match which would make me feel a sense of nervousness compared to if Arsenal was in the CL Finals.

 Czech is Southeastern Europe? We share a border mate. EPL and La Liga teams get such a free pass to the CL, it's honestly Arsenal's own damn fault they can't make it.

Personally I find the greatest thing about the WC/Euro is how the whole country can get wrapped up in it. It's just a whole vibe everywhere you go. CLs come and go and most people have no fricking clue.

they’re not gonna win but I think doing well is closer than you think. It hinges on a good coach but there’s talent there.
