They should definitely not age the characters if they do reboot it and I will not watch it if they do so as it seems Judge wants to.
I feel like all the adults would basically be the same, it's really just Bobby and his 2 friends that would be the major difference. I would be more of a fan to age them just enough to be in College.

The biggest issue with the Simpsons is it has not been funny for almost 20 years
Yup. The kids in South Park are all the same age they were 20 years ago and the show still works because it’s still funny.

For KOTH, I trust Mike Judge to do it right. Idiocracy and Silicon Valley were also great. If he thinks there is funny left in these characters then I look forward to seeing his vision.

I love Mike Judge.. but he also tried re-booting Beavis and Butthead about 10 years ago and it went quietly in to obscurity. I think a lot of his characters are cemented to their era (basically the cultural zeitgeist of the 90s). Don't think a reboot will be relevant, but I always root for Judge. He's given some of my favorite animated characters..

If Eric Cartman can still exist so can Cotton Hill.

I stopped watching the show around the time Hank found out he had a half-brother from Japan. That was around season 7 or 8 I think? I would have some catching up to do with the Hills (7 or 8 seasons that I have not seen), although I'm sure it won't be imperative for receiving full enjoyment from this latest iteration.

I hope they would only age the characters a few years as they could keep most of the original voice cast....although even with a slight aging of the characters, I suspect they would probably find a new voice actor for Bobby Hill to factor in the voice change as an older teen. Too bad, as I liked Pam Adlon's voice for Bobby Hill. Eh, maybe she could pull off a slightly older Bobby.

I always found it funny that Dale was such a conspiracy theorist yet he never put two and two together regarding his son's remarkable resemblance to John Redcorn.

yeah, seems like the only person Dale fully trusted was his wife.. & ironically she was doing him dirtiest.

Dale did get close to unraveling Joseph's inexplicable ancestry one time.. If I remember right, he speculated that an alien had fathered Joseph.

I love King of the Hill. No need for a reboot. I will enjoy watching the episodes again for years. Some things are just better left in their time capsule.

If you want to "reboot" some Mike Judge stuff, make a series based on Idiocracy. That would be much more fitting for our times.

I like King of the Hill, as it is one of the few shows that truly reflects Middle America, without full blown caricatures that are intended to be mockeries. That said, a show that takes more of a centralist stance will be hard to exist in today's bipolar political climate. It will be an interesting experiment, for sure, but it is more likely that it will completely flame out.

I didn't watch this and can't imagine how bad it must have been.

Early 90s humor really has not aged well. At the time, I loved Wayne's World, Beavis and Butthead. They're almost un-watchable now, because the humor feels so anachronistic to today's world. To a lesser extent, it's getting harder to force myself to laugh at movies like Tommy Boy and Ace Ventura. They really were funny at the time, but the jokes are entirely tied to a style of humor that felt edgy at the time, and then played itself out during the Tom Green era into the Will Farrell era. Now, the earlier stuff just feels corny.

Hopefully KOTH proves to have more staying power, but I'm not so sure. Its humor was very much tied to the zeitgeist of the late 90s and especially the early 00s. Some of this stuff is just hard to transport from era to era.

The Christian rock joke will never not get me to crack up.

But I don't think KotH has aged at all. I don't feel that it's tied to any particular time or place (despite the obvious) in what makes it funny. Hank is the ultimate straight man who is having trouble coming to terms with the world changing around him, as reflected both in his family and his friendships.

He can go on about how impersonal zoom or email is. He can complain about the absurdity of constant news coverage and the inability to just sit around and watch football. Dale can be concerned about WiFi giving him cancer or whatever. I think the ideas are still there and can easily translate to this generation - whether it's done well is a completely different question.

The tricky thing is whether, in 2021, Hank wanting to watch football rather than the news is a message that will resonate as having a political charge in its own right. Half the population will see it as an expression of bourgeois privilege to ignore critical historic events in favor of conservative entertainment. The other half will see it as an endorsement of the liberal-leaning NFL over cable news networks. Neither listens to the other, so they won't see the inherent contradiction there. They'll both rage and suddenly, a centrist stance becomes a cancel-worthy political statement.

That's the difference in our politics 20 years later. So many people are entrenched in hardline positions that standing in the middle is regarded as taking a side, and is received with hostile intent.

I'm not saying this can't be navigated... but it can't be navigated with the same dynamic as the original show. Judge has to figure out how to translate these characters into a different world, without losing them.

You will be happy to know that a new Ace Ventura movie has been confirmed.
