We fondly remember joking & calling the surging Detroit Red Wings of the mid 1990s on: "The Wings Of The Red Soviet"...I think card sets were issued to celebrate the plethora of great players emanating from the vestiges of the Soviet style of Hockey..A system adopted from Lloyd Percival's book.. ..How much & to what extent did Scotty Bowman adapt the trad. Soviet style to the Red Wings??

The Soviet Wings are a hockey team based on Moscow - I believe they still have that name.

Yes of course...But with the arrival of a slew of star players from the crumbling Soviet Union, playing in the Wings Red uniform , an ironic link was made...
