thread title comes from the Jonathan Edwards sermon.

this board's desire for some wingers to play with Crosby and Malkin is "like the great waters that are dammed for the present; [the desire] increase more and more, and rise higher and higher, till an outlet is given; and the longer the stream is stopped, the more rapid and mighty is its course, when once it is let loose."

Does that mean Ray Shero and his precious defensive prospects are the dam?

So, let's see where we're at . . .

Tarasenko injury means forget about Stewart/mpp9 on suicide watch.

Iginla will cost a ton, might not re-sign, might play old in three years if he does.

Kulemin is worth TK and a 2nd, adds a different third line guy for Malkin and Neal who likely will have marginal if any impact.

Malone gets injured, not worth 4.5M, if Tampa eats a third of the cap hit, then he's worth TK and a 2nd.

Perry is a wet dream.

Anyone care to add? :D

EDIT: Forgot one . . . Shero so infatuated with perfection of James Neal trade that it has become his threshold for what represents an acceptable risk.

if shero somehow pulled off a miracle and got perry to the pens, it would solve all of our problems

Montreal, 16gp, 105 total penalties
Pittsburgh, 17gp, 89 total penalties.

well the sermon does make a reference to outlet passing.

as to Shero's cautiousness, i think we'll reach nine or ten of these winger threads before a move is made. that'll be 10000 posts and the title will probably be "Winger Acquisition Thread | Part X: Winger is a Band (and I've Run Out of Literary References)"

Now here's something that'll heat up this thread...

Sorry guys but I can't post it using my tablet... Check out Russo's Twitter. He mentions chatting with Don Waddell who is scouting Minny & Edmonton tonight and currently on a super long scouting trip. So far, based on tonight game, interesting how it involves 2 teams we won't play this year who have surplus of forwards and looking for help on D.

That shows the talent discrepancy that Michel Therrien has to overcome in Montreal unlike our resident whistle blower has too here in Pittsburgh but Thanks! for pointing it out.

How does a Winger stop this one-trick pony breakout that when countered consistently leaves a 3v2 or 4v2 vs our goalie? (or my favorite cherry pick of the season Paul Martin 1 v 4 while the rest of team skates away...)

Hope all this Shero's talking to the Avs is not about ROR, but rather David Jones. He could be Geno's or Sid's Left wing.

You can get back to endlessly whining about the coach if you want. I just posted it because I found it interesting. We tend to think we were more disciplined under MT and we probably were in some ways because of his style but the numbers really don't support it.

Bylsma's first two full seasons
936 total penalties

MT's first two full seasons
963 total penalties

DB has had one more full year than MT and his 3 year total was 1306.

I threw out the seasons that there were coaching changes from Edzo to MT and MT to Bylsma.

This year Calgary actually has the fewest penalties in the league and that's followed by Minnesota and Winnipeg. Not exactly stacked teams. St. Louis and their disciplinarian coach Hitchcock have a comparable number of penalties to us at 85. Babcock's Wings are at 84 in the same number of games.

Malkin for Ovechkin. Malkin becomes #1 guy, Crosby gets his winger

We must be getting really close on Cullen! Waddell can't let him get out of his sight!!!
