Amen to that! I think teams are better today to look on what type of player they acquire but not that long time ago we could see the most horrendous examples of players used in wrong roles. Niklas Sundstrom, P-J Axelsson and Magnus Arvedsson actually had more tools and promises than they were thought of. Jakob Silfverberg is the latest one.
Agreed. So much untapped talent in some players. Goalies are even more obvious some times. The wrong goalie coach sometimes want´s to "fix" a goalies playing style instead of develop from that prospects strength. Jonas Gustavsson choosing a team that had Francois Allaire as their goaltending coach was suicide for having a good NHL-career. Allaire want´s nothing to do with goalies of the type The Monster was when he came over. And Gustavsson, unlike many others, had a choice and made a terrible one. One that didn´t have a choice was Markström. And he did salvage his career because he was young and got a few years under Roland Melanson (one I as a goalie with a own choice sure would love to work with...). Had Markström been drafted by a team with Melanson from the start, he would have had a completley different career. And even if he will be in the leuage as a probable 1A/B kind of goalie by the looks of it, he could have been a great starter and a top 10 goalie in the leauge if he had the right goalie coach from the start.
