Currently on pace for 132 points over the full 82 games, which would tie them for the all time record 132, although the 1976-77 Canadiens did it in 80* games.
Next highest is Detroit Red Wings 131 points in 1995-96.

Bonus question not in the poll: Do you think they will finish the season with a win % greater than .825? (1976-77 Canadiens)

so 43 pts in 27 games..... unlikely

would be with an asterisk anyway given the SO wins
They’re 42-8. Going 22 and 5 over their last 27 games is actually a little slower pace lol.

I don’t think they’ll make it. They’ve been rolling 4 lines so no one should be tiring down the stretch but I still think it’s in their best interests to rest Krejci, Bergeron, Marchand, Foligno, etc.

The Habs played 80 games that season and lost 8 games.

Maybe, with today's prevalence of points gained through the gimmickry of the current post-regulation circus against ties, somebody will catch them or even pass the record...but it's highly unlikely we'll see a better overall team than the 77 Habs.

Heart says yes, mind says no.

I think at their current pace they stand a chance of breaking the record.

But I also think they'll take it easy a bit in the final weeks of the the season to make sure everyone is healthy for the playoffs.

The Bruins still only have 8 regulation losses, so they just need to go 21-0-1 to have the same regulation record over 80. There’s still a chance!

With depth scoring so deep even the goalies are getting involved... maybe

Yes this is true, for some reason I wrote 82 in the OP but I meant to put 80 (it was the point of the caveat to begin with)
Clearly that Habs team was something else, but with the advantage of the extra two games it seems plausible that the nominal point total is surpassed, though the stretch games will be tough.

I think it can and will be broken.

Boston has had a tremendous advantage over Montreal in the fact that not only do they have shootouts forcing decisions, while still getting a point with a loss, but Montreal didn’t even have regular season overtime back then. How many more points might they have if their 12 ties at the conclusion of regulation could have turned into wins? 6? 7? 8? Plus 2 extra games.

On the flip side, the Bruins are doing this in a 32 team league in modern day with 24/7 scrutiny during a season that many, including myself, thought they might not even make the playoffs.

They deserve to be commended. Much like the Lightning winning 2 Cups and making 3 Finals in a row, it is a lot harder to dominate now.

38 points in 24 games seems reasonable for how they’ve played up to this point. I hope they do it.

Counterpoint they were playing plumbers.

Probably best not to compare eras
