Will the 16/17 Avalanche reach 60 losses?

As of the 16th of February, the Avalanche's record is 15-38-2. There are 27 games left in the season. In order to reach 60 losses we would need to lose 22 of them. Is it possible?

If we don't trade any of the oldies then probably.

I think that if we dump some of them and call up some kids maybe that new energy and life could carry us to some more wins.

Are OT losses not losses?

Depending on how you view it, they'd have to lose 20 of them to hit 60.

I'll be surprised if they actually hit 60, but it won't be THAT far off. This team is beyond terrible.

I actually realised that as I was opening the thread again. I guess it depends on how pure you want this year's failure to be. I won't quibble if we end up going 21-58-3.

A friend of mine convinced me in the off season that the Avs are a playoff team. Should I be cruel and find that text and send a screenshot of it to him? Tampa fan here lurking.

This team really should have been a bubble team, but the wheels have literally fallen off. From coaching to age to players just giving up.

I predicted that this team would not break 40 points and I'm sticking by that prediction.

They will finish the season with 23 losses in their final 27 games

It's the 26th of March and we're 20-51-3. 60 losses is possible if you include those 3 OT losses, with 8 games left we need to lose another 6.

Although at this point I think under 50 points is much more embarrassing.

Seems like a certainty at this point. I'll be surprised if we win one more game all year. Maybe we can beat Dallas on paper, but by the time that game comes around we'll probably be on an 11 game slide and be completely defeated mentally.

Based on this article it looks like the Avs aren't that bad but the Senators and Sharks both played in a different era. I guess the Avs are going to set a modern NHL record? Has any other team come close to this post Crosby entering the league?

57 points is the most we can end up with if we win out (but we know that won't happen). For reference, the expansion Blue Jackets had 57 points in their first season. The closest teams to this suckiness are: 2014-15 Buffalo (54) and Arizona (56), 2013-14 Bufffalo (52), 2006-07 Philly (56), 2005-06 Blues (57) and Pens (58). Even the 2003-04 bankruptcy Pens (58) and Dollar Bill Hawks (59) weren't this bad, and they were actively shipping out good and/or expensive players in order to keep costs as low as possible. We have to go back to the 2000-2001 expansion Thrashers (39 points) to find a team that is decidedly worse than this year's Avs. Before that, the 1997-98 Lightning (44 points) are the only non-expansion team I can find that were worse than us going back to the 1992 season.

This team really is a special level of suck.

That's why this isn't going to happen next year. It was a perfect storm of several factors that lead to this glorious implosion. It's not going to take much to get to 22nd-25th in the league, which sucks for a different set of reasons but it actually is HARD to be this bad.

Agreed. Even just getting to OT more often would have allowed for more points.
