Bartman should throw out the first pitch of the World Series while wearing a Marlins' cap along with his trademark headphones

The people around Bartman were just as involved ad he was. Add the fact the ball was a foul ball and anyone's natural reaction is to catch the ball and protect themselves. If Alou didn't react like an ass then no one would have cared.

Cubs fans were brutal, forget about all the errors the Cubs players committed after the incident. Lose Forever Cubs!! ({goat jpeg|)

Chicago needs to dig up Bartman, apologize to his corpse, just like the Red Sox did with Babe Ruth.

They were too hard on him but he was 100% in the wrong. Get your hands out of the way, its not your ball, he has no right to that ball. He has no right to interfere with a game that is being played.

Guys like him should be tossed right on the spot in these ball games. Nothing in baseball bothers me more than a fan sticking his arms over the railing to STEAL a baseball from play.

This goes for fans that are trying to help their team as well. Lets say Bartman was trying to steal a ball from the opposing team and gets called for fan interference... maybe that player wasn't going to catch the ball and now he just cost his team.

Keep your hands off the field and away from balls that are in play.

i don't blame bartman one bit for pretty much removing himself from society after what happened, especially seeing the videos of him being escorted out while having all kinds of stuff thrown at him and being cursed at. and the guy has turned down millions of dollars to resurface, really shows just how effed up people are

any other fan in his spot would have done the same thing and like clowe said, if alou didn't react the way he did no one would have even noticed. bartman is the last reason the cubs lost. alex gonzalez should be the one who took all the heat because he actually WAS the reason why they lost but because of bartman he virtually got a pass

watch "catching heat" if you haven't already, great 30 for 30.

Why does everyone say this? I know for a fact I would not try to catch a ball that an outfielder is trying to make a play on. Nor would I reach my hand over to try and steal a fair ball rolling down the line.

You think the HANDFUL of fans that went for the ball were aware that Alou was attempting to make a play on the ball?

It's easy to be high-and-mighty about what you would have done from your couch.

because most fans, when a foul ball is coming down towards them, don't pause, look towards the field, and think in those few seconds "oh wait, maybe i should keep my hands down so the OF can try to catch the ball." you're focusing on nothing but that ball coming down at you. it's instinct. the funny thing is that bartman was one of a handful of people in that section who went for the ball, he just happened to be in the right spot

that is completely different from a fair ball rolling down the line because in this case, the ball is coming right at you

catching hell goes really in depth into how bartman was listening to the game on his headphones, but the radio broadcast was on a delay. so while the play is happening, all he hears is something along the lines of "prior getting set, delivery, etc"

I've expressed anger at any fan who does it. If you are literally in the first row and are able to reach for the ball its common sense that the outfielder will probably be there trying to catch it. Regardless you should always be aware that you aren't having an impact on the outcome of the game by getting in the way.

It is easy to be high and mighty about it because it pisses me off to see it happen. Because of this I wouldn't allow myself to be that person.

It's one thing to put your arms up to protect yourself, its another to reach out to try and catch a ball.

It was indeed disgraceful how Bartman was treated. That said, what happened in 2003 should have no bearing on this year's team or any future Cubs team. I'm sure Steve, wherever he is, is still rooting for them.

The Cubs are now cursed by their mistreatment of a goat and their bizarre treatment of Bartman.

and it IS his fault.

I know a ton of **** happened after but it all started with that play.

rofl, it is his fault. After Castillo hit that foul ball the plays went as follows:

Walk
Single (run scores)
error (botched double play ball that would have gotten out of the inning up 3-1)
double (2 runs score)
intentional walk
sac fly (4-3)
intentional walk
double (clearing the bases 7-3)
single (8-3)
popup

Yeah he was one who caused the error, 4 hits, and 8 runs given up after .

Yep, could've been 2 outs 1 on man if Alou catches that ball.

The team melted down after, but it started the whole thing.
