Why can't we have a longer 3v3 and no shootout???

Keep the current format but go to a 3-2-1 point system. Puts a lot less value into SO and OT wins and rewards teams that can get it done in regulation.

We could. Makes little difference.

3v3 is every bit the laughable gimmick as the shootout. Both are coin flips.

Three on three at least still maintains the fundamental aspects of hockey. Two teams, playing offense and defense, passing, etc. It's gimmicky hockey but at its core it's still hockey. The shootout is a small element of the game magnified and hardly seems like a way to settle a hotly contested game.

Do a 4-on-4 it and then end in a tie. There's nothing wrong with ties.

Wouldn't want them to work for free now would we?

It's a long, grueling season and the last thing guys want to do is be faced with potentially five more minutes of wide-open hockey each night. That could add up. I don't blame them.

In soccer extra time is 1/3 the time of a normal game before penalties, basketball and baseball they don't stop until it's over. NFL ends in a tie after OT.

Hockey has the absolute stupidest way of ending tie games out of every other major NA sport.

I don't care for 3 on 3 either, it's gimmicky. I'm good with 5 minutes of 4-on-4 and call it a tie after that. Nothing wrong with a tie.

Just turn the third period, its second half to a OT kind of hockey if there is a tie at that moment. If it will be the case later, turn it such then.

The 3vs3 has been productive. It's taken a loooong way to get there too. Good nor bad. And the shootout is good to show off star talent and lucky goalies.

right but 4v4 isn't gimmicky? please

I'd be better w/ 5-on-5 but it would probably lead to no-effort OT periods. 4-on-4 seems like a decent compromise that still retains the overall flow of actual NHL hockey.

Either way it seems pretty overwhelming that most people would prefer to eliminate the shootout and bring back the tie.

I’m done, SO’s are a joke to the integrity of the game. They will be gone by next year, book it.

until the vast majority of fans start walking out of arenas after OT, the SO will remain - and you know it.

There is a 99.9% chance the shootout will exist past your lifetime. Get used to it. Embrace it. Enjoy it. I do.
