I don't want any Devils fans to answer this. I want to know who you would value more from an opposing teams standpoint.

Petr Vrana - 5`11 185, left shot, C/LW, 2nd round pick 2003. March 29th, 1985
A small but fiesty centermen who is lightning quick. He is gritty, well rounded offensivly and defensivly. A excellent playmaker and an extremely talented stickhandler. Not a good finisher. Is getting the reputation as a **** disturber. He is an excellent leader, captain of the Halifax Mooseheads. He is a safe prospect with Serge Brylin potential.

2002-03 Halifax Mooseheads QMJHL 72 37 46 83 32
Playoffs:24 5 15 20 12
2003-04 Halifax Mooseheads QMJHL 48 13 25 38 56
2004-05 Halifax Mooseheads QMJHL 31 10 19 29 41

Ivan Khomutov - 6`3 205, left shot, C/LW, 3rd round pick 2003, April 11th, 1985
A large agressive centermen who has above average speed and mobility. He plays strong along the boards and competes 100% each game. He is still a raw player with plenty of room to improve. He has an amazing shot but doesn't use it enough. He doesn't quite have confidence in his game yet. He is risk reward prospect and seems to be on the right track.

2002-03 Team Russia 85 5 Nations Tourn. 4 3 3 6
2002-03 Elemash Elektrostal Upper League 20 1 1 2 8
2003-04 London Knights OHL 40 9 12 21 25
Playoffs:15 3 1 4 7
2004-05 Albany River Rats AHL 21 1 5 6 11

Vrana, he will make the NHL because in all honestly i can see him playing on any of the 4 forward lines. His defensive game as well as his leadership are ahead of 90% of 19 year old hockey players.

Havent seene enough of Khomotov to comment, but from what i heard, he is more of an offensive player who probably wont be able to play on the bottom 2 lines.

I'll weigh in by first saying I've seen neither. Halifax is a little far away, and I have yet to see Albany in the AHL. But based only on your description and the given stats I take Khomutov. He has size, and you always have difficulty teaching that. I see a few things...large centerman...average speed.....competes 100%...amazing shot and doesn't use it....those things alone (I'm gonna get flamed) immediately had me thinking of Thornton. Not that he would ever be nearly as good, but when you have size and a terrific shot, it will open up tremendous possibilities. His stats at the 5 nations tourney show me that he is a player when around those of his age. Not terrific stats in the AHL, but I would suspect he's getting 3rd/4th line ice time. Given that, 1/3ppg is okay. I would suspect another year or two in the AHL with more ice time would lead to a much better player.

Just my opinion...

I like Vrana. When I've seen him, he looked really good with the puck. He seems like a guy who if you put him on the right line can really complete a line. His passing and his aggresion along with his stick handling coudl really compliment some other people, a lot like how Gionta really compliments Elias and Gomez. I also really look forward to him starting some of the brawls he's started with Halifax against the Flyers, we need more ****disturbers in this rivarlry. I just wish he'd take care of his own business more.
