Since 2012 only Alexander Ovechkin scored 50 goals in a season (three times). Who can do it next year or maybe in the years after? Who will be the first one?

I think Laine with Ovechkin himself are the best candidates. But Ovechkin will likely have some drop in his goal production. He will be 33 next season.

Or maybe Matthews? He has now Tavares on his team. Kucherov? Other candidates?

I don't see how that helps him to 50 goals. Maybe easier matchups but I'd still have my best dmen on Matthews. Scoring will be more spread.

McDavid had the most non PP goals in the league last season....he'll hit 50 with a decent PP.

Laine of course

I think Malkin or Crosby could hit 50 with health.

Dark horse: Rakell.

Tarasenko could be a good candidate since he has scored 37,40 and 39 goals. Plus he scored 33 with an injured shoulder last season.

McDavid and Laine would be at the top of the list for me right next to Ovechkin.

Matthews, Malkin, MacKinnon wouldn't be long shots either.

I would be stunned if Laine doesn't hit 50 goals in either of the next 2 seasons

For Matthews to become a 50 goal scorer, it'll matter on how many PP goals he gets.

He's already the best goal scorer in the NHL at even strength.

Will be an interesting wrinkle this year. Matthews and Tavares play different spots on the PP so there's an option to play them together.

Ovechkin, Matthews, Laine and if Karlsson goes to Tampa probably Kucherov all have a shot at 50.

OV will probably hit it first though

Alex DeBrincat (28 goals) vs Alex Ovechkin (49 goals) last season

Ovie played almost 6 minutes more per game what DeBrincat
Ovie had almost twice the amount of shots on goal what DeBrincat
Ovie played in 1st line with Kuznetsov, 1st pp unit (for full 2 minutes at times)
with Bäckström,Kuznetsov,Oshie,Carlsson.

Imagine DeBrincat playing the entire next season in 1st line + 1st pp unit
with likes of Kane,Toews,Schmaltz, Keith, with, lets say...
5 minutes more ice time per game, twice the amount of shots on goal.

He has to score 22 more goals to reach 50, half of that could come just from PP,
that would leave him to score 11 more, with Kane&Schmaltz as line mates?
11 goals shouldn't be too big of a deal.

Well. that's my reasoning .
