It's March and that means the Kraken will pay their final installment to the league and oficially become the 32nd franchise of the NHL.

Thanks to that, the team will also be able to start signing free agents come this month.

Who do you think they'll sign or should sign?
And who will be the first player ever signed by the Kraken?

According to Sound of Hockey, the team hasn't made their final payment to the league as of yet.

Given that the NCAA and some european leagues end pretty soon I hope they'll get it done so we can try to sign a couple of those interesting free agents.

Undrafted college kids will be available after Saturday's final.

(The first player VGK signed was CHL overager, and that was five days after final payment made.)

Not sure if he comes back to the NHL, however former 2nd round pick D Jaskin has torn up the KHL. The 6'2" 220 forward has matured a great deal since his time in St. Louis and Washington. He was mis-used by Hitchcock and Mike Yeo and could be a nice signing for the Kraken.

I'd love to see the Kraken sign Akito Hirose, kid is extremely mobile and while not elite offensively or defensively, could grow quite a bit in both areas with Palm Springs over the next couple years. Also on a selfish note, I'm friends with a couple members of his family and think it'd be great to see, I already cheer for his brother Taro (Detroit) for the same reason.

Wolverine goalie Strauss Mann could be a smart signing too, he's been excellent the last couple seasons for Michigan.

Now that the Kraken is officially able to sign players, do we have any information regarding targets of interest ?

Mann announced his intention to turn pro today, maybe just coincidental that Seattle gets the green light to sign guys.....

Expansion club would be a smart spot for Mann who could challenge for the AHL starting gig right off the bat. Mann had great numbers at Michigan, but might be a little undersized by pro goalie standards.

I would be surprised if he doesn't sign in Detroit. They can burn a year off his ELC too.

He'd definitely save on moving costs. Are the Wings expected to sign Keith Petruzzelli and Jesper Eliasson?

No idea about Petruzzelli. His teammate Diliberatore turned pro a long time ago though.

Players are being given a 5th year extension in the NCAA next season.

Ha, that’s an unexpected name. Congrats to Luke and to the Kraken... it’s all a bit more “real” when there are actual names involved.

These are some comments I wrote on Henman during Canes rookie camps:

2019

“He's one of our more borderline prospects, where you can't quite tell whether he's a serious asset in the pipeline. I'll be interested to see how he stands up in a live-fire situation against guys who have good NHL careers ahead of them.”

“Has just kind of been there.”

“Had a couple of good moments... Nothing you can draw much insight from.”

2018

“Pretty quiet to me.”

“Henman just isn’t good enough to play with these guys.” “generic roster filler, this being a missed chance to make [his] mark before the tourney ends.”
(this was at the Traverse City tournament, so against much more developed players)

Henman was a Ron Francis draft pick, so clearly Ronnie sees something in him to have picked him up twice. But unless he’s made huge strides since COVID started, I don’t see him as an NHL regular. A good trivia answer someday, and perhaps an asset for your AHL team or the odd future call-up.

edit: this also marks the moment in HFKraken history where you guys need to add a “Confirmed with Link” prefix for player signings.

We need to pay up our portion of the HFBoards expansion fee first .. :)

We currently do not have mods or have options for many prefixes during thread creation.
