Who will be the #1 LD next season?

Which defenseman will be Shea Weber's partner?
Which left-handed defenseman will have the highest TOI/G?

Is a Markov-Weber pairing too slow?
Can Markov still play 24mins+ as a 38yo?
Is Beaulieu ready for top-pairing duty?
Will Barberio be Therrien's new pet?
Is Sergachev ready to make a big impact next season?

To balance things up, it should be Beaulieu, but knowing Therrien it will be Markov.

Principle's Office
Weber - Markov: sooooo slow and immobile...Markov would be gassed by February

Weber - Beaulieu: unless Beau improves ALOT very quickly, he's nowhere near ready for Top Pairing duty

Weber - Emelin: DEAR GODS NO!!

Weber - Sergachev: The kid's 18, anyone expecting this needs a healthy dose of reality...

Weber - Barberio: See Weber - Emelin...Barbs is a depth guy, he starts playing 20+ minutes a game and we're in deep ****

...so pick your poison...our D-core loses mobility and/or experience regardless...Markov's the only "real" option, but he's not getting any younger and now will have to be relied upon moreso due to Weber not being much of a puckmover at all...this is going to be a real issue, especially as the season progresses...

I hope it's Beaulieu, he's an Elite skater, not bad defensively, he has an excellent first pass, Weber can help him to improve. I hope he will develop his offensive potential like this, but he needs to improve his shot.

You're asking the wrong question. It's not about who's the no1 LD, because it's obviously Markov and by a mile (he's better than anyone else and he'll play the more minutes), but who's gonna be Weber's partner and it won't necessarely be the best LD. Right now, Beaulieu might be the best bet, but like everyone else, I hope for an upgrade on Emelin.

Emelin-Weber duo could be scary.

Lets give Emelin another chance. We've seen him when he's on his game and when he's hitting. It's fun to watch.

I'll give him until trade deadline.

On even strength it should be Beaulieu, with Markov taking his spot on the powerplay and Emelin playing next to Weber on the PK.

There is no good answer. The guy probably has to be above average mobility wise. So we are probably looking at barberio and beaulieu as your candidates. None of them are the solution.

This poll is missing Redmond. Don't forget he's on a one-way deal. He's on the roster, Therrien and JJD will miscast him for sure....

Petry. **** sides, hes the most adequate player.

Petry - Weber
Markov - Emelin
Beaulieu - Pateryn

Totally agree about LH/RH.

If our best defencemen can't play their offsides then they're not as good as we thought. Better to play the PBA than to force a guy into a role he's not ready for simply because of which way he holds his stick. That won't matter if the puck is always in the back of our net.

Defense Depth Chart

1. Beaulieu - Weber very nice pairing and a nice partner for NB to step up and be what a#1 should be.
2. Markov - Petry better for Markov and he is a better partner than Emelin for Petry.
3. Emelin - Pateryn both where they should be.... Emelin better watch out for Barberio
4. Barberio

AHL top pairing is Samuelson - Redmond
AHL #2 pairing is Parisi - Lernout
AHL #3 pairing is Hanley - Johnston
AHL #4 is Thrower although Didier slots in here somewhere....

Futures top pairing is Sergachev - Juulsen with both ready in two years!
