Nate Thompson and Nicklas Backstrom (Caps center, although the goalie is always banged up too) are 2 guys who may miss time in October and November it seems.

What is the story there?

He played all year with a pretty bad hip injury (nearly won the art Ross,he was leading late in year) had offseason surgery and may or may not be ready for opening night
although its believed he will only miss a week or two if he isnt ready opening night

Ah, Thank you! Didn't know that. Thought it was some sort of recent off ice injury

I'm thinking Smid. Dude has bad neck issues. Also wondering if his career is done too like Horton, Savard and Pronger. Though there might be hope for Smid.

He won't miss any time in November. In all likelihood he'll miss a week or two to start the season, and maybe not even that

Backstrom will be on IR. He had surgery in May and the expected recovery time was 5 months, which means he should be ready for late October. He'll miss 3 weeks at most.

Slava Voynov. He hurt his knee playing tennis last year. Out until at least November. Not a great year for him.
