Who are players who probably start the season on LTIR? Also, who are players who may need to be on LTIR due to career threatening injuries in the same vein as Marc Savard, Chris Pronger and potentially Nathan Horton?

He played all year with a pretty bad hip injury (nearly won the art Ross,he was leading late in year) had offseason surgery and may or may not be ready for opening night
although its believed he will only miss a week or two if he isnt ready opening night

Backstrom will be on IR. He had surgery in May and the expected recovery time was 5 months, which means he should be ready for late October. He'll miss 3 weeks at most.
