9 teams in the running for 8 spots. Someone's gonna miss.

The top 9 teams in the east have separated themselves from the rest by 7 points. This is a sizeable gap halfway through the season and in all likeliness will be enough to rule out the bottom 7. No doubt, someone will come in and say 'theres still a chance', but all these teams have given up, and their horrible odds at best

Of these 9 teams left, one will still miss.

Who will miss?

I'm guessing Montreal or the islanders, what do you think?

CBJ. I’m feeling the Habs will get some stuff done and surprise people enough to squeak in. Similar story with the Iles

One of Montreal, Buffalo, or NYI. Columbus could too if they decide to be sellers on Panarin and Bob.

You can safely remove Tampa. To make the play-off Bolts need 34 points in 41 games. There were no team in the NHL that bad this season. Even LA, Ottawa and Philadelphia have at least 35 points in 41 games.

Only team that is safe are the Lightning.
The next 8 teams are separated from top to bottom by only 6 pts. Yes that's right 6 LOUSY pts

Leafs----54
Caps---52
Pens---52
Bruins--50
Buf----50
Jackets-49
Habs--49
Islanders-48
Any one of those teams could eventually drop out of the playoff picture.
Especially if injuries occur----
Examples that could linger
Like losing your best player for a bit --buf
Losing your starter,and backup---Leafs
etc----

Agreed, I thought they built enough of a cushion in their flukey 10 game win streak to secure themselves a spot, but they’re just 2 points up on NYI, who have 2 games in hand.

Boston’s got the worst goal differential of the teams mentioned, and has struggled the most over the last 10 games. Montreal, who’s right behind them has both Price and Weber back, so we should expect them to outperform their first half pace... which means Buffalo really needs to get it together if they hope to make the playoffs.

Anderssen doesn’t seem like he’s out long. Probably going to be back next week.

Islanders also have games in hand on all of those teams, two on Montreal, Buffalo, Pittsburgh and Boston.

Definitely the Lightning

Kidding, I want a rematch with them.

Probably would go with Montreal

Only 3 teams have more road wins than the Isles. 9-1 past 10 overall. 2 points out of first in the metro. Games in hand vs PIT and COL.

Keep in mind that most of the remaining home games are at Nassau Coliseum where they play very well. 3-0-1 this season.
