90s has to be the toughest for me. It's easily the best decade for music IMO, but my two favorite bands (Pixies and Radiohead) are clearly split between the 90s and 80s (Pixies) or 2000s (Radiohead). There are an overwhelming # of options otherwise.

metallica has released one album in the 10s that nobody liked but ok

Nobody liked Hardwired to Self Destruct? I know thousands who did, and there isn't another live act that can touch em throughout their entire existence. To me and a million others.

50s: Buddy Holly
60s: The Beatles
70s: Cat Stevens (There are artists I'm blanking on at the moment who might displace Cat, but I'm comfortable with the choice)
80s: REM/Duran Duran (at the time, U2 --AINEC -- but not now)
90s: Teenage Fanclub
00s: Belle & Sebastian
10s: Alvvays (small sample size, but they're the only "new" artist whose music I've purchased in this decade -- will buy their sophomore album as well)
