Marleau has a chance, cup or not when you look at his resume. gp, one of the top goal scorers all time in playoffs. All with one franchise. I think a cup would almost guarantee him a spot. big if. but if he bounces back even by the time his contracts up he should have over 500 goals and 1100 points. not to mention he could probably play a few more years bolstering those numbers a lot more. if he plays 5 more years i say yes.

He's the type of player who should never be in the hall of fame. He's never been a top 10 player at his position. He's just been really good for a long time, but never elite.

Define elite. I think being top 11 in the league in goals while being one of the best at his position defensively for three years is elite.

Larionov counts as a shark man come on. I wonder how many people remember him as a shark and saw him play enough to accurately judge. He was the best player those 94 playoffs period while the sharks were still in it. Hes all over the ice defensively and offensively. He was really amazing that year just in general. Not enough credit to him.

I guess if you never look past the elementary school counting numbers of goals, assists, etc.

If you look at the underlying data, he does what he does playing some of the toughest minutes out of anyone in the NHL. He is basically the team's defensive specialist foward. That makes him quite elite.

If he finishes 500+G 1100+pts and another Gold... Maybe
Jumbo= lock

No one has mentioned Ray Whitney. I put him much the same as Marleau.

I meant elite in a HoF sense. I just think people of Thornton's caliber should be in the HoF and the Marleaus shouldn't be. I am a huge Marleau supporter, but I just think that the HoF should set its bar higher.

That's quite the condescending response, but you missed my point entirely. I am also a huge proponent of advanced stats and can still draw my own conclusions of who I feel is elite.

My point wasn't that he isn't a really good player, but that the hall of fame (in every sport) lets in players who are merely really good, instead of the next level. In my opinion most of the HoFs are becoming flooded with good and well liked players instead of the best of the best.

Ray Whitney and Marleau are really good players, but I just don't think they should be in a Hall of Fame. Joe Thornton is a great player who deserves to be in the hall of fame.
