When you consider the expansion draft for both Vegas and Seattle, which team lost the best players?

IMO St. Louis, Perron was a quality forward and Dunn will be Seattle's #1 dman for years to come. Could also make a case for Pittsburgh, Florida (on Marchessault alone), and Edmonton (Larsson alone).

This doesn’t Include any of the players Vegas got for “Expansion Draft Considerations”:

Shea Theodore from ANA
Reilly Smith from FLA
Nikita Gusev (signing rights) from TBL
Alex Tuch from MIN (but unlike the other teams the Wild got a 3rd Rd pick in return from VGK.)

The trades were expressly about the expansion draft kind of weird not to include them.

You need to include the trades that were involved during the Vegas expansion draft as well.

Cause doing that makes some teams loses look way worse.

Florida lost Marchessault and Smith to Vegas.

Smith was "lost" via trade. He wasn't a draft pick.

Larsson was an UFA. Seattle could have waited a few days and signed him anyway without picking him at all. The Oilers were losing him regardless.

That's what happens when you hire inexperienced people to run your hockey ops.

Vegas hiring GMGM was their best move. & the draft picks/trades proved that.

Pretty sure Seattle’s FO had quite a bit of experience with Francis and Botterrill. Olczyk has also been around the league for decades

Vegas also selected an upcoming UFA in Engelland in their draft.

I know. But the question wasn't which team had the best players drafted. It said which team lost the best players as a result of the draft. Exposing Marchessault was part of the deal for Vegas to take Smith.

Overall, Florida and Anaheim lost the most in the process. But that includes trades that were attached to the eventual selections, which is fair game to me. Can't really talk about the team's expansion losses without including the things they lost to "control" the pick.

St.Louis are up there just in raw terms as well. And it wasn't even strictly about the deals they made. So straight picks lost...i guess it's them.

For Minnesota, probably should consider that Vegas got Tuch for taking Haula.

I really, really wish Tuch was still on my team.

Funny, despite people crying about how Vegas was 'gifted' a championship team this list is mostly a whole lot of meh. If stupid GM's hadn't paid Vegas to take players and instead just let the draft play out they wouldn't have been nearly as good right away.
