It’s no surprise that fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs, aka the “Bay Street Bullies”, are the NHL fans who drink the most. In 1st place on our list of NHL fans who drink the most, Toronto fans guzzle an average of 3.9 alcoholic beverages per game — nearly twice the number of drinks consumed by fans of their archrivals, the Montreal Canadiens (2.3).

Barely missing the top spot but still knocking back 3.8 drinks per game, Chicago Blackhawks fans took second place. The Tampa Bay Lightning and Colorado Avalanche tied for third place, with their fans each putting away 3.7 drinks when they watch a game.

Some places are known for their drinking on St. Patrick’s day, but do those places also outdrink their NHL rivals? Not necessarily. Teams from Pennsylvania, the state whose residents drink the most on St. Patrick’s Day, finished 7th (Pittsburgh Penguins) and 18th (Philadelphia Flyers) on our list.

The bottom five teams on our list, the Kraken (2.1), Islanders (2.1), Devils (2.1), Capitals (1.9), and Rangers (1.8) all find their homes in some of the highest cost of living areas in the US. Maybe these fans simply can’t afford to drink more during games?

Methodology

In April 2022 we surveyed 1,584 NHL fans over the age of 21 living in the US and Canada. The average age of respondents was 36.4 years. Fans were asked how many alcoholic beverages they typically consume while watching a hockey game as well as how much they typically spend on alcoholic beverages while watching a hockey game. The average age of respondents was 34.9 years old.

I reject virtually this entire lists rankings. No way Panthers fans drink more than Flyers fans, for example.

The majority of fans in the Florida arena are on vacation and rooting for the other team.

I totally buy it.

They also have an all you can eat/drink section (including alcohol). Or, at least they did when I went in 2015.

I went last week and last year as well. I don’t agree whatsoever.

That Laffs fans are a bunch of boozers comes as little surprise as their ticket base is mostly corporate. They're not paying for the average $15 drinks themselves. Johnny's corporate account is.

Hawks fans only shelling out a relatively paltry $9.50/drink, the product sucks and the franchise is a disgrace and a clusterf***.

Thought I'd see what the average drink price was at the rest of the NHL rinks, following the order of drinks/game consumed.

#3 TBL & COL - $12/drink
#5 ARI - $13 (what's a beer gonna cost at ASU?)
#6 EDM - $12.50 & PIT - $15
#8 OTT - $12.50
#9 STL - $11
#10 FLA & DET - $13
#12 DAL & CAR - $13
#14 BUF - $11.75
#15 LAK - $15 & CBJ - $9 (Is Carry Nation living in Columbus? Only venue with a price below $11/drink)
#17 VGK - $13 & PHI - $12 & NSH - $13 & MIN - $11 & BOS - $12
#22 VAN - $15 & SJS - $13
#24 WPG - $11.25 & MTL - $12
#26 CGY - $11.50 & ANA - $14
#28 SEA - $15 & NYI - $16 (only place with avg. drink over $15) & NJD - $14.50
#31 WAS - $13
#32 NYR - $13.50

I never went to a game this season in Calgary cause of health issues but last year I am pretty sure it was 9 bucks a beer.Seems like steep increase 250 a beer.
