I already said in that post, Ovechkin seemed to peak in his first few years, goals and points wise. Matthews was on pace for 55 goals this year had the season not been put on hold. And he was much better once Keefe took over. I dont doubt he will be a consistent 50+ goal scorer.
I mean I’m sure Matthews will have some 50 goal seasons, but averaging 50 is as rare as it gets.

Going to be tough for the young guys to catch up imo. One of the differences is Crosby/Malkin/Ovechkin were 100+ point guys at age 18-21. Only McDavid from the other group is similar, the others took a bit longer to get there (MacKinnon, Draisaitl), or have yet to get there (Matthews, Eichel).

And the young guys aren't entering their prime, they are in their prime. From purely an offensive point of view, declines start around age 26-27.
