Sakic at age 37 had 100 points with the Avs. Another guy who had a great season(s) was The Great One scoring 97 and 90 in the DPE at ages 35 and 36. Mr. Hockey put up 103 points at age 40, which is probably the BEST season ever by those standards. Though he still played professionally for another decade or so (though not in the NHL).

I imagine Sakic and Gretzky's have to be some of the best seasons ever at that age. Who else had comparable seasons in their final 3-4 years in the NHL?

Mario had 91 points in 67 games as a 37 year old.

Beliveau and Bucyk took advantage of the expansion, and were both above PPG at 39.

Sakic, Shanahan, Selanne and Lidstrom have probably had the best offensive seasons since the lockout for 37 year olds or older.

Sakic was also by far Avs best defensive forward that season, and played against the oppositions top line on a nightly basis. Amazing how strong his two-way game still was at that age.

Alfredsson still has a lot of game left. He could have a 85-100 point year still and be a good two way player. He also might regress to a 70 game 60-75 point player. As a Sens fan it would not surprise me to see Alfredsson have a better year this season than last year with Gonchar and Karlsson moving the puck up the ice far better than the Sens have the last few years.

Gordie Howe with 103 points at age 41 in 1968-69. A discussion on best seasons by a player over 40 begins and ends with Howe. He'd keep it up in the WHA of course. 96 points at age 50 in any league is jaw-droppingly good.

3rd in points to Hull 10 years younger and and Esposito at the start of his prime. Definately the best twighlight season... if it was his "twilight" since he played for more than a decade more!

In overtime, in his peak, he ranks #1 in my book due to all the "wow, you predicted he'd score" phone calls I'd get the next day!
