That's what happens when you jettison all your vets and depth on D in favor of a "youth movement". Color me shocked it hasn't worked.

They have allowed 101 goals, the most in the NHL. Poor defense and goalies, hell, maybe even poor system.

Losing out on Jordie Benn for Honka is not a bad move. They are playing 2 cheese graters in net.

The goalies have actually been above average this year.
Sure they are!

Kari Lehtonen: 18 games played: 18 starts: .894%, 2.92 GAA.

That's not above average at all, that's ****ing putrid and even worse than his last 2 years before this one.

Niemi has been average/above average. Ruff needs to role with him from now on and not put Lehtonen back in there the next time they lose a game 2-1 with Niemi.

Meanwhile at 5 on 5, Niemi (9th) and Lehtonen (19th) have Save Percentages of .938% and .929% respectively. These numbers are better than Lundqvist, Gibson, Jones, Bishop, Luongo and MAF.

Brackets show their rank for goalies w/ >600 minutes played this season.

Where they are giving up goals is on special teams. Dallas is allowing a metric **** load of odd man rushes on the powerplay and our penalty kill has been leaky.

The goalies are fine. The defensive system of this team is the significant weakness.

Injuries are part of the problem , so is letting veterans go without adequate replacement.

Letting Goligoski and Demers go and just signing Hamhuis + hoping the kids would step up was a risky move and one that hasn't paid off . I hate Goligoskis contract he got from Arizona but he would certaintly improve the team if he was still on the Stars.

Spezza pretty much has no line anymore where he fits. Last year he played most with Janmark and Nichuskin who are both lost for year. ( one with injury the other is in Russia ) That was our second line last year . Now our third line now plays as the second line and they are not all that great offensively.

They entered this season with the worst goalie tandem in the league. Didn't expect them to be this bad, but I'm sure even Stars fans didn't expect much.

They failed to consider their own homes were made of wood as well.. and the injuries pilled up along with even weaker/younger and not gelled yet defensive core has been eating them up.

They're not.

They're good enough . At the very least good enought not to be considered the teams biggest problem . Not sure goalies even make the top 5 when it comes to Stars problems.
