A few Months ago a solid majority of Caps fans wanted him fired. And based on the evidence, it was hard to argue against them. Trotz has been historically slow to adjust during a playoff series - if he adjusted at all.

Something has clicked with him this year. His team is dictating the pace of play. He seems to have melded his system with Pittsburgh's highly successful transition game. The Caps can clog up the zones between the blue lines, intercept, then turn and burn. They are opportunistic. They are smothering. They have smarter breakouts, and smarter puck movement in their own zone. They are making all the right decisions - play the puck or play the body (something the Jets repeatedly got wrong last night), dump and chase or hold in your own zone and wait for the line change, rush up ice or hold back, when to pinch, etc.

His performance this postseason has been masterful. GMBM will extend him if Trotz is amenable. The players clearly love him. If not, Trotz's right hand man - Todd Rierden - will likely get the gig.

I think he probably stays unless they have an awful collapse against TB or whoever they play in the finals.

Had they lost to Pittsburgh or Columbus he was gone. But they didn't. So he probably stays.
