2 UFA years at $5.2m? That's a bit low. I'd give him $5.4 if he was willing to do 4.

I'd love to see something like $5.55 over 6 though.

I probably didn't get the numbers right if the poll is so lopsided.

1 year at $4.5m vs 4 years at $5.5m would have been a more even contest.

I'm not sure — you might just find that there is a hard break point between two lopsided results. Peace of mind seems to be rather inelastic.

One year at $4.8m in arbitration - he would be a RFA again next summer, but only one season from being a UFA.

Four years at $5.2m - this buys out two RFA years & two UFA years, and Schenn would be a UFA in summer 2020 when he'll be turning 29.

No way he is signing 4 x 5.25. If they are only going 4 years you should expect the number to be 5.5-6 range.

I could see 5 years x 5.25, 4 x 5.50, or 6 x 5.0.
It's not like the Flyers are doing him a favor by signing him. They really dicked around with his development up to last season. He came up as a center but never had a real shot to play it which is no ones fault. There weren't enough minutes with Giroux and Coots to waste him as a 3 C. I always fault like they wanted him to play like Shane Doan when he wasn't a pure PF. So, I don't hold it against him that he didn't break out offensively until last season.

For a player that has been improving the for last 3 years, I find it hard to say the team "dicked" him over.

AAV goes up when you buy more FA years for a 25 year old top 6 forward, not down.

4.85mil at 4 years seems fair. Other players of Schenn's caliber make a little more and other make about the same or a little less.
I'm thinking around the type of deal Vincent Trocheck got from the Panthers, but not for the same length of years.

I see no scenario where he will make less than Riley Smith who got 5 years and 5 million.

I think he should take the same contract Coots got, but that probably wont happen. The second option seems fair according to his production and comparable league contracts.

Coots has the best value (non-ELC) contract on the team

Schenn turned down the Flyers offer of 4.25mil x 2 seasons (total 8.5mil) on Saturday, so it looks like the Flyers and Schenn are heading towards arbitration on Monday July, 25th, unless the Flyers and Schenn's agent can hammer out a deal today but that's looking more unlikely.

It'd have to get to $6M before I'd seriously look at a shorter, cheaper deal with Schenn. 4 years, 5, hell, even 6 if I can get it, as long as it's somewhere in the vicinity of $5M, I want him locked in.

6 yrs at 5.3.

I would not do 6 years...do 5 or 7.

In 6 years, both Giroux and Couts will be UFA's that summer. Try and have Schenn the year before or after. I think Schenn would rather the 5, and then he will be a 30 year old UFA and can still get a 6 million dollar deal for 5/6 years like we saw this summer.

It's frustrating how frequently this is getting overlooked

It's been said multiple times now but people just seem to ignore it for whatever reason.

All you have to do is look at the recent examples of players arbitration numbers & what they actually signed for to avoid it. These are short term deals so the numbers are going to be low & high from the respective parties. When you starting adding more term to the equation the number tends to find a common ground between those figures.

It reminds me of the way people need to be reminded over and over again that offer sheet values are based on a maximum of 5 years.

So I was pretty close after all. I just never expected the Flyers to choose two years going in to arbitration. Maybe it was just a tactic, and they alays expected to come to a long term deal.
