What to do with old hockey helmets?

So, as my kids have grown in skating and hockey, we now have 2-3 helmets that are much too small for them. They're now past the HECC expiry date as well. Now in their pre-CANSKATE programs they made a big deal of checking the expiry date, but I've never seen anyone care any level of hockey. We've also had a couple of helmets given to us, that again are all past their expiry date.

Now, as I understand it, that is a US-only date and CSA doesn't give any set expiry date. But in any event these helmets are too small for my kids.

What can we do with them? Is it right to try and sell them? Will a used store even take them? Is there any way to recycle a hockey helmet, rather than just throwing it in a landfill?

Zero chance you will get any value for a used, old, expired helmet. Best bet would be to donate them. In my area, some of the rinks have equipment donation bins for old or unused equipment to go to less fortunate kids.
