this. even in the playoffs. karlsson wings it from the goalline and it sneaks in, that's mostly luck, not that karlsson is a great sniper.

The two goals he scored is like 1% of the elite Karlsson that we saw in the 2017 playoffs. His main attribute was his elite defense.

They have quit on Boucher and it's a shame because I think he is a good coac, he was a guy I was hoping would be one of Babcock's assistants when Babcock was hired.

Mybe his next job should be as an assistant

Something is wrong with the dressing room. They are a borderline contender on paper.

They have given up either on the coach, the gm, or maybe even the owner. Team in total disarray and not playing with any intensity or focus. It's too easy to say they got lucky last year. They were a damn good team.

They have really poor depth, especially defensively. Losing Methot hurt. Karlsson is probably the best defenseman in the league overall but he isn't a stud defensively no matter how hard Senators fans try to push the idea that he is. For a team that supposedly traps, they allow the 5th most goals against per game in the league, and they just gave up 5 goals on 50 shots.

Definitely been had watching the team the last month or so. It's really a combination of factors...a few of our defensemen are hurt, Erik spent the entire summer in a cast and won't be 100% for a long time, the Boucher system is a 1-year wonder, cheap (and crazy) ownership, a rookie GM who is in way over his head, a couple anchor contract in Phaneuf and Ryan that handcuff this team....

Not sure at this point how the guys are going to pull out of this slump. This season is turning into a disaster.

People blame Boucher but truth is, he took a terrible team to conference finals

No, they weren’t a terrible team, but they overachieved last year. 98 points got them 2nd in a weak division and having home ice in the first two rounds against an injured Bruins team and Hank not playing up to par for the Rangers. Pens had some injuries to key players and Fleury shit the bed in game 3, which led to Murray coming in.

They weren’t a true contender, but they weren’t terrible either. They also were playing like a team. They believed in the system and worked for each other. We’re not seeing that this year.

As much as it pains me to admit, the Sens are done for this season. They'll have to go an equivalent of 34-20 to make the playoffs which is super difficult. A lot of people probably lost hope a while ago, but this slump is brutal. Shut out in three of the last four games and only have one win since who knows when?

It's impossible to lay the blame on one single player or person on the team. I don't think last year was luck, it was a team who worked very hard, was a pain in the ass to play against, and ended the season with good depth on defense and forward. This season, it's a complete 180. The goaltending sucks. The defensive coverage is awful. The effort level isn't there. Nothing is the same.

I wouldn't say they've given up on Boucher, though. I don't see why they would. Sure, his system is a little hard for fans to watch, but the team talked many times about how successful it was and the effects it was having on the team winning games. They rallied and made the ECF last season, I don't see why they'd come in and give up on the coach.

They got hot at the right time last year and just rode that to an improbable distance. It was a fluke. That said, on paper they shouldn't be this bad.

If you look at it that way, everybody overachieves.

Sens crushed the Bruins all season long and it continued in the playoffs. They never lost at TD Place. Lundqvist practically stole Game 1 and played great in Game 3, 4 and 6. Remember, everybody predicted the Rangers to beat Ottawa. A huge reason Lundqvist didn't look good in Game 2/5 is because the Sens talent.

Plus, Ottawa had a ton of injuries as well, the players just played through them. Karlsson was obviously very injured, as was Brassard. Anderson was in a lot of pain as well, and the entire team had an injury in some sort of way. Just because Ottawa played through it and Boston didn't, shouldn't be used against them.

I think they overachieved because no one would have predicted them to get to game 7 of the 3rd round before the season began. They weren’t one of the top teams in the league or the eastern conference all year, so it was surprising to see them get that far. That happens a lot though. Nashville overachieved last year too. Sometimes teams get hot at the right time.

Is it overachieving, or is it a league with a lot of parity and a flawed playoff system? All it takes is being in a bad division to make it to the ECF, but Ottawa was a tough matchup for any team to play against.
