We don't have the budget to invest in anyone relevant and we don't need a classic bargainbin's move either.

Trade Hoffman or Armia
Sure, but Hoffman is a self-solving problem not a priority. Armia would be a priority but the demand is probably non existent. Either way, if there is a trade to be made then he should be made.

Buyout Hoffman or Armia
That come across as a move to appease the fans who want their pound of flesh more than a practical move, we'll ride out Hoffman contract and see where we are next year with Armia.

Sign a goon to face Lucic(Boston),Zack Macewen(Ottawa),Ryan Reaves(Toronto)
We are not competing with Boston, Ottawa or Toronto... and so we don't need to react to what they do.

Trade Allen
Sure, but he looked terrible last year, so who would want him right now?

Signing a RHD shouldn’t be prioritized. Quite the contrary in fact; the current RHDs should either be developed (Barron/Mailloux) or showcased (Savard/Kovacevic) this season.

Buying out Hoffman or Armia is no longer possible at this stage. (I would have seriously considered it, for Hoffman at least.)

Signing a goon seems counter-productive unless the Habs first make some room considering they already have +15 NHL-forwards.

Trading Allen this offseason should not be a priority, but if Montembeault keeps progressing this year, using a retention spot to trade Allen at TDL 2024 (or 2025) should definitely be explored.

Amongst the available options, thus remains the one of trading Hoffman and/or Armia. Seems hardly possible without significant incentive in the latter’s case considering his remaining term, but hopefully a team bites on Hoffman for future considerations before September!

None of the above.

The Habs already have too many players on the roster to add free agents.

I think the Habs would have to attach a 2nd round pick to trade either Hoffman or Armia for future considerations.

The Habs buyout window is closed, so that option is closed for Armia and Hoffman.

Similar to Hoffman and Armia the Habs would have to attach a pick to trade Allen. A goalie with a sv% under .900 who makes $3.85 million for the next two seasons is going to be tough to trade.

Remaining Summer Priorities:
* Sign RFA Jesse Ylonen
* Explore Extension talks with Montembeault
* Name an Assistant Captain (replacement for Joel Edmundson)
* Replace Scout Matt Turek for the OHL
* Add quality to our Scouting (Amateur & Professional) Staff (We have the budget let's make sure we excel in this area)
* Add to our Player Development Staff (Byron rumour perhaps)
* Give Adam Nicholas more budget to add to our Development Team as he sees fit (Love Nicholas)
* Add to our Hockey Analytics Staff (HuGo talk about this being a priority area)
* Continue building our Medical/Therapists & Sports Science/Performance Team - Lots of recent adds but let's ensure we reduce injuries
* Assess if Mesar is better off in OHL/AHL/EU
* Assess if Slafkovsky is better off in NHL/AHL
* Explore Armia/Hoffman/Allen/Gallagher Trade possibilities (good luck with that one)
* Assess risk of putting Primeau/Pitlick/Wideman on Waivers in October
* Perform Salary Cap magic so we don't need to put Price on LTIR until the season starts
* Monitor Dvorak's timeline for returning from injury (very convenient if after the regular season starts)
* Determine which of our current 8 dmen starts in the AHL (Harris/Xhekaj/Barron waiver exempt)
* Explore taking on a cap dump in return for compensation (i.e. Monahan last year)
* Send Karl Alzner his final buyout cheque for $833,333
* Book Alex Burrows plenty of time with our video staff so he can improve our Power Play
* Identify undrafted young prospects to invite to our Sept Rookie Camp

Good points.

But buying out Hoffman would be to make sure the young guys like RHP and Ylonen get good playing time. It has nothing to do with wanting a pound of flesh, for me at least.

The downside is something like 1.7M against the cap next year...But I think it's too late to buy him out anyways.

I answered trade Armia or Hoffman and Allen, but tbh, these are non issues for now. Armia is a bit annoying, but the best bet is to ride it out. No one wants him.

Armia is so unpredictable and could have a good season and raise his value this year for a team ready for a playoff run. Probably not, but trading him right now won't get us anything, so better wait.

I would look into including a guy like Ylonen in a trade to dump Armia and ideally Hoffman. ARZ would be a perfect trade partner as theyre looking to be a bit more competitive, could still add some prospects to their pool and might be interested in the potential return a half retain Hoffman (after a solid season playing PP 1 with Keller) could fetch at the TDL. Plus Armia could always bounce back to the 40pts guy he was. AND Ylonen is actually born in ARZ so nice plus for them.

So something like Armia + Hoffman (50%) + Ylonen for nothing.
