To me this is the crucial part of the season. Coaching has to be there. We have the tools, but just having the tools doesn't build the winning team. It has to be constructed by putting the players in the best possible way to win. Not favoring Kunitz. Not putting players on their off wing. Competition has to exist instead of just be given to vets.

This is the make or break part of the Penguins. MJ has to find chemistry and not be a complete dolt like Dan Bylsma putting Iginla on the opposite wing.

Same D, switch Dumo and Scuds. They could go a few ways with the defense. I could see Lovejoy or even *shudder* Scuderi on the second pair, Pouliot on the third....I'm intrigued to see what they will do there. However, I think one of Kunitz or Dupuis need to be on the fourth line. Preferably Dupuis since he's coming back from LTIR and is getting up there. I would really like to see Fehr on the RW with Bonino but I doubt that happens considering how vocal Fehr is in his desire to play center so I'll let that go.

I think the main concern with Johnston is that he won't have the spine to make Kunitz and Dupuis bottom 6 players.

For the start of August, I was thinking of doing a poll thread series (similar to top 20 prospects) about who HFPens wants to play where. Yay or nay?

For example, thread one would be "On who's wing does Kessel play on?" Options would be Crosby or Malkin.

Honestly, it gives me shivers to think about what the coaches might do. Not because I think they're bad, but because I have the mentality of the family dog who got whooped. I would do:

Perron - Crosby - PH
Plotnikov - Geno - Kessel
Bonino - Fehr - Dupuis
Wilson - Sundqvist - Bennett
Farnham

Maattaa - Letang
Dumo - Cole
Pouliot - Lovejoy
Scuds

And trade Kunitz (and Scuds) for futures.

I want a kid energy line for the 4th. And Bennett :)

And that third line will shut some people down.

What I think they'll be.

Kunitz - Crosby - Kessel
Perron - Malkin - Hornqvist
Plotnikov - Fehr - Dupuis
Sundqvist - Bonino - Bennett
Wilson

Letang - Maatta
Lovejoy - Pouliot
Scuderi - Cole
Dumoulin

Fleury
Zatkoff

What I'd do.

Perron - Crosby - Hornqvist
Plotnikov - Malkin - Kessel
Kunitz - Fehr - Dupuis
Sundqvist - Bonino - Bennett
Farnham

Letang - Maatta
Cole - Pouliot
Lovejoy - Dumoulin
Scuderi

Fleury
Zatkoff

I think as of right now, the Penguins have four players on the right wing, who prefer to play on the right wing. That's Kessel, Hornqvist, Dupuis and Bennett. They have four centers, Crosby, Malkin, Fehr and Bonino and three left wingers in Perron, Kunitz and Plotnikov.

I really like the versatility of this lineup, obviously Crosby and Malkin are going to be our two top-six centers with Kessel and Hornqvist on the right wing. I just hope Johnston keeps Perron on the top-six. If Perron somehow has inseparable chemistry with Fehr and Dupuis and the top-six doesn't suffer, so be it. That said, there's really no reason he shouldn't start in the top-six on Crosby or Malkin's left wing.

I'm not a fan of Bennett anywhere other than the right wing, he's just not that useful on the left wing. Plotnikov from what I understand can play all three forward positions, but did his best on the left wing. The good thing about Plotnikov is he's a good two-way player and pretty physical, so even if he doesn't grab a top-six spot, he is still a viable bottom-six option. Fehr and Bonino can play all three forward positions, they also can produce in the top-six if necessary, which is always nice to have, but I see them more as third liners, too good for the fourth line, not consistent enough for the top-six.

It's honestly a nice problem to have, and I don't remember the last time the Penguins had this much forward depth, maybe when they had Morrow, Iginla and Jokinen.

This is my roster as well. I love that "fourth" line. It will be annoying as hell to play against.

IR: Fehr

Fehr's injury would allow us to try Sundqvist out at centre though the faceoffs are going to be brutal outside of Sid. We have no idea how Plotnikov will look but starting him with Malkin and Kessel will insulate him plenty, if he struggles then you could always move Kunitz/Dupuis up. Once Fehr's back you put him at centre on the 4th line and have the option of running basically two 3rd lines. If Plotnikov looks good then I'd try and move Kunitz/Dupuis asap which would allow us to add a dman at the deadline.

(Fehr is 3/4C later if everyone is healthy)

Dumoulin - Cole
Scuderi?

Best for this team and what I would do? If Kunitz is heartless leach, then I'll drop him to bottom 9 and work lines like this:

Perron - Crosby - Hörnqvist
Plotnikov - Malkin - Kessel
Kunitz - Bonino - Dupuis
Farnham - Sundqvist - Bennett (poor Bennett)
(same as lineup above, but I'd like to see Simon up when injuries happen)

As to Dumo, he never has played RD, to my knowledge. So it would be a big change. As to Cole, he says he's comfortable on the L too.

I think our legit options at RD are Letang, Cole, Lovejoy and now Clendening.

There are just so many guys who can jump into the Top 6 with Sid & Geno, this is awesome! My hopes for Plotnikov will be that he kind of turns into a "niche player" who, maybe he's not a Top 6 guy on his own but his muscle, grit and hands make him a very nice complimentary player for Sid, Geno or Kessel.

So as I play NHL 15, here's my lineup:

Perron-Crosby-Hornqvist
Plotnikov-Malkin-Kessel
Bennett-Bonino-Dupuis
Kunitz-Fehr-Sundqvist

Maatta-Letang
Cole-Lovejoy
Pouliot-Dumolin

Kunitz should have to outplay Plotnikov and Perron. Maybe even Fehr if they play him on LW assuming Sundqvist nails down that 4C role. Fehr can still take faceoffs for Malkin.

Dupuis should start on the 4th line and go from there.

Beyond that, Im not going to get all bent out of shape.
