What quality of starter would Grubauer be?

Average. Given the Caps were down 0-2 in Round 1 with him as starter and then they replace him with Holtby and they won the Cup I think he's going to be an average starter and probably nothing special.

As a Caps fan, I'd say average for a starting NHL goalie - which is actually quite good.

He also proved he can have stretches of greatness which is even more important. It didn't manifest in those two CBJ playoff games, but so what. It's a small sample size. NHL GMs will see the potential there.

I think he’s good enough to be a #1 that a team trusts. But i don’t think he’s this well kept secret who blossoms into a superstar. So i went with average starter.

After giving up 8 vs Philly in October, 33 GP, 15-9-2, 0.930 save%, 2.10 GAA. Season before 13-6-2, 0.926, 2.04. I think above average.

I don't think so. If there are 30 start quality goalies in the NHL, I would say...

• 3 are elite (Vas, Rinne)
• 5 are above average (Price, Bob)
• 14 are average (Rask, Murray)
• 5 are below average (Allen, Markstrom)
• 3 are borderline (Greiss, Lehner)

Not scientific, just my very simple layout.

Scott Darling went 42-18-9 and had a ~92.4% save pct with the Hawks.

I agree Grubauer is a good goalie but backup statistics playing behind a top team should not make anyone draw conclusions about him being a top 15 goalie in the world.
