In my personal opinion, I think it should be a 10 minute 3 on 3, then go to a shootout if nobody scores.

10 min 4 on 4, then either tie or shootout. Ideally continuous 10 min 4 on 4 periods, but that's unlikely

I don't like that the total number of points on offer changes if the game goes to OT. If you are going to have 2 points for a win, then it should either end in a tie or the OT loser should get 0 points. My preference is the former. If a win would be worth worth 3 points, the 2 points for an OT win and 1 point for an OT loss makes sense. OT should always be 5 on 5. Shootouts suck.

One 5 minute overtime sudden death. If no goals then a second.
If still tied then it's a tie. Kind of like NFL football. There's nothing wrong with ties.

I think it would be kind of interesting to give both teams a loss. Perhaps it would incentivize them not to play for the overtime point or tie if they were ever brought back. After all, if a team didn’t outright win a game, anything can be considered a loss.

Realistically, that’s an insane proposal.

Keeping the current format would be fine, if they would simply give the loser of the game nothing, no matter if it is in overtime or the shootout.

A tie is a tie, no problem with that. Win 2 points, tie 1 point, loss no points. Simple, elegant, after every game 2 points in total are awarded.

3v3 until a winner, no shootout.
3 points for regulation win.
2 points for an OT win
1 point for OT loss
0 points for regulation loss.

3v3 is less of a gimmick than a shootout, and we still don't have ties.

Continuous OT will never happen in regular season because of scheduling for TV and flights. It isn't even realistic to consider any of those options.

I think the old format was better.. OT then tie.

2 total points are up for grabs in the game win, lose or tie.
