Forward its the 1000pts/500goals.

What is that important milestone for dman in term of points? Like often people associate 1000pts/500goals with HOF.

500pts? 600? 750?

Hitting 500 is pretty impressive.

Defensemen tend to enter the league a few years after forwards or enter the league and not given a role right away. 500 points is what 33.33 points a year over a 15 year career?

Maybe 600 that makes it 40 points over 15 or 30 over 20

Not trying to derail your thread OP but your question made me think of my own personal favorite Sergei Zubov (Stars fan). 771 points in 1068 games, 117 in 164 playoff games, two cups and a big part of each one. Based on this, if we're going by the 1000 points/500 goals milestones for forwards, I'd put the rough equivalent at probably 600'ish points.

Zubov deserve it. If Recchi gets in I dont see how Zubov wouldnt.

Plus he was 4th for Norris in 1994 at 23 and 3rd more than a decade later and on the 2nd All Star team.

One of my fav dman growing up.

I was also looking at Kaberle high 500's in 9xx games.. Same as Markov high 500's in 9xx games.

I think it's just games played. Which is weirdly only true for skaters, whereas goalies I think have a magic number related to wins.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

The prestigious number for a Dman is #4. #4 Bobby Orr.
2nd is probably #77. Coffey/Bourque
:D

2 is pretty awesome too for a d-man. Simplicity is what make numbers great. Keith is rocking it on a O6 franchise and I love it.

On topic, Id say around 1000 games played. If you survived this long it means you are doing something good. Flirting with 500 is a great feat too.

Don't forget Doug Harvey, he had 6 Stanley Cups, 7 Norris trophies in a 10 year span, wearing #2.

I look to games played first for D. Maybe 1000+ games and 500+ points. That's gotta get you close to the hall of fame right?

1000/500 sounds about right.

Also, single digits are awesome as D jersey numbers. Don't like #77 at all, even though the history is there.

I might even say 1000 games and/or 500 points. Has to be some defensive guys with long careers that are as highly regarded or more as some other guys with 500+ points.

I can't really think of examples off the top of my head without looking them up but yeah,
