Those graphs show Oiler fans that were not born in Edmonton/Alberta?Popularity of Canadian NHL Teams (2023) | TheHockeyFanatic
The Hockey Fanatic looks at which Canadian-based NHL team is the most popular in Canada. Is it the Maple Leafs, les Canadiens, Canucks, Oilers, Jets, Flames or Sens?www.thehockeyfanatic.com
Plenty of evidence that no one cares about Vancouver, outside of Vancouver. Reality is a real kick in the teeth sometimes.
This is probably a simplistic take. It's more palatable to make the trek out to the arena when your team comes to town once or a couple times a year vs when you have 41 chances to see them play at home.I have no sympathy for Ottawa fans in that regard. Sens fans constantly whine and cry that the arena is such a bad location the drive is horrible boo hoo. Yet fans of other teams prove they will travel to Ottawa (highly doubt the other fans are all locals) to watch their teams play. So Sens fans can put up or shut up about other fans in their arena.
Being the 3rd most popular Canadian team isn't really a surprisingly small market . Especially when no one is ever going to eclipse Montreal & TorontoThe Canucks market is surprisingly small considering their population.
Oilers probably take 3rd place.
Grizzlies, oh wait...The Jays or Raptors?
Ottawa last place for sure. The 'hockey fan' to 'Sens fan' ratio in this city is ridiculous. Wouldn't be surprised if we were tops in the league of opposing fans native to the city. Not just Toronto/Montreal either - Boston, Pittsburgh, Chicago, even Vegas now always have a large presence at the CTC.

Embarrassing
That is your biggest mistake. Stop bringing your buddies to the Sens games who aren't Ottawa fans. This is not a kumbaya event it's a hockey game. As a Sens fan do you know how bad it looks on TV to see so many opposing teams fans in our own building? Especially watching this as I sit 5-hours away? LolThey are locals.
Ottawa has a very large expatriate population
As a season ticket holder since 2003, I often bring friends who have moved here to the games involving their team.....
And being gifted the best player in a generation might have helped a bit.Oilers still have fans after the decade of darkness... Elite fans
Was attendance poor during HOPE?And being gifted the best player in a generation might have helped a bit.
Comparing fans who have 1 game a season to attend to fans who have 41 games a season to attend. Your don't have to have sympathy but at least have common sense.I have no sympathy for Ottawa fans in that regard. Oilers have passed them in popularity. Maybe when McDavid retires the Nucks will have a chance again.Being the 3rd most popular Canadian team isn't really a surprisingly small market . Especially when no one is ever going to eclipse Montreal & Toronto
Grizzlies, oh wait...
Others have provided facts that the Oilers are currently third in popularity.Get owned how? Multiple sources were already cited and posted to prove I am right
As an Oilers season ticket holder I can say getting rid of Oilers tickets is much harder than Canucks tickets.Probably the oilers in terms of true fans but Vancouver has legions of bandwagoners at their disposal that burst through occasionally.
Sabers and Islanders are pretty much the Oilers of recent times. We really haven't done much in the last couple decadesSabres still have fans after a half century of darkness....Godly fans ..or suckers for punishment. One or the other
Problem with them is that even a McDavid level talent is unlikely to draw in much for new viewershipSabers and Islanders are pretty much the Oilers of recent times. We really haven't done much in the last couple decades
This is due to population of cities and not overall popularity. Vancouver's population is 3 times of Edmonton and have all of BC as its fanbase. Oilers share alberta fans with Calgary. Outside of these provinces Edmonton Oilers are far more popular than Nucks due to McDavid and old Oilers. It's not even close. No one out east stays up to watch some Canucks hockey.. McDavid draws a lot of viewers for Oilers.Problem with them is that even a McDavid level talent is unlikely to draw in much for new viewership
If that were to be true you’d still see an uptick in social media followings, which you don’t. Even the author who wrote the article claimed his findings are skewed due to just McDavid and the Edmonton/Calgary series being a large portion of the searchesThis is due to population of cities and not overall popularity.
