Not really though. We get to see Oppenheimer in full imax either way. We just aren’t interested in paying an extra x10 to also see the bluray bonus features in imax.

Although maybe you’re comparing current oilers plus to the OPs idea rather than what you can get watching a regular game to the OPs idea.

To answer the OPs question, I’m not interested in paying for content (post game analysis, interviews etc) that we should be getting for free.
I am not so sure that what teh OP is suggesting should be for free. The NHL is a business. That said I don't believe that @Bobieque is thinking of what we already get but rather much more in-depth content produced in a manner that is of much higher quality than what we now see. For example for in game action you would have theoretically multiple camera angles at the users control with interactive information available on demand. At least that is how I envision what is being proposed. So you would be looking at significant investment from the team/league to make this possible at scale.

The current streaming of NHL games is pretty primitive and the quality of the postgame or even in game analysis is not even close to say what you get from the NFL.

Imagine if you will, my perfect viewing experience "Oilers Platinum"

Every game in 4K - Both Streaming and on a 4K channel assessable by your Cable Provider

More Camera angles, with your choice to lock on one or play like a typical game.

Live statistics throughout the night, if you care to also have on your screen.

Main host and commentators pre game, intermission, and post game; also several side tables (like trade deadline coverage).

Individual Side Table discussion (with experts) includes "Analytics", "Betting" (I hate but its now the culture), "Around the League", "Coaching Breakdown". and "Community Corner".

During what would typically be a normal commercial break the main host goes to individual specialty tables, or a quick hit from the main panel.

Post Game coverage of 1 hr minimum to :90 min.

Also: Not kids on these panels or side tables (unless an analytics or betting specialist) but actual professionals.

So: what would be the highest you would pay for this type of service?

I would put out $1K a year to get this.

After the feed kick-out of a paid stream with crappy production horrible music, stuttering...I'm in a "Ok? You want to screw me? Then screw me good and I'm willing to pay. But this better be worth it"

I'm down with everything except "and on a 4K channel assessable by your cable provider".

Maybe you don't intend this, but I don't want to have/need cable. I want it 100% streaming with NO BLACKOUTS. That includes playoffs.

As long as it can take away the near aneurysms I experience when I find out my stream isn't available on my ESPN or any of the other streaming services I pay... but some obscure service (like NHL Network) that isn't accessible in any other way except cable... gaaaaarrrrrr!!!!!.... I almost have an aneurysm just thinking about it.

Anyway, if you take away that stress/uncertainty/rage, then I'd be willing to pay any of those tiers.

I'd pay extra for a button that would shoot fruits and vegetables at the talking heads on the panel.

Like imagine they pan over to John Shannon and - BAM - he gets hit square in the forehead with a cabbage.

I could get behind a premium service like that.

What am I allowed to throw at John Garrett? I'll pay double if you make it worth my while.

I was thinking about this watching some games on Oilers+.

I’d love to have way more arena shots like the Oilers crew has, I actually like seeing the fans and getting more of a feel for the building. They could do a way better job but I think there’s something really cool about feeling almost like you’re there.

Give me Jack Michaels during the actual game but between periods I would love almost a podcast style coverage. Like former players just talking more naturally about the game. Like Terry Ryan is perfect for a Spittin Chiclets type atmosphere, not so much suited for a studio full of suits. But I’d love if it was literally 3-4 bros literally sipping beers and talking about the game. Have a producer pull up highlights from the period and let the boys react.

Hockey media got rid of Don Cherry and went full Ron McLean. They’re almost all just a stick in the mud. We don’t need a Don Cherry clone but a modern day version wouldn’t cross the line by todays standards, but they’d still have real passion for the game and be entertaining.

It’s hard enough to find quality analysts for a few minutes let alone enough for an entire game. Sitting there listening to Kelly Hrudey blab on about the Flames being gods or his clueless takes on modern goalies just has no appeal to me, let alone paying $1000 for it to be crammed down my throat all game

I voted paying nothing. I did so because such promises have been made for years. Really since advent of HD we were hearing about these myriad selections possible. Anything from audio preference, rink sounds, camera angles etc. This was going to be our brave new viewing world. That was 25yrs ago.

High definition and smart TV's were going to change everything.

This kind of future viewing experience seems not to arrive.

Snet can't even deliver the broadcasts in HD. Its usually 720. We're hoping for 4K. With selections?

Yeah I doubt its coming anytime soon.

Instead the changes we got is pay for Netflix and pay for Disney and the like. yuck.

The technology to do all of this is there. But it is in good part a band width issue. This thread shows why it would not be economically feasible for companies to go forward. There just are not enough people willing to pay the price it would take to get companies to invest in the infrastructure, let alone the personnel it would take to do this right.

As for Snet using 780p this is a technical issue. The natural alternative is an interlaced signal which for a sport like hockey would give you a worse picture since you get artifacts associated with the fast motion. We won't see much 1080p from any broadcaster unless users are paying a premium. If Snet is going to spend the money to upgrade their cameras they will go to 4K. But then the bandwidth issue comes into play again.

People these days want content they can watch on their phones. That has actually held things back.

I would pay 500$ directly to the nhl for
-every games without blackouts,
-no f***ing adds, get me a relaxing bird view of the rink while they take break.
-zero commentary,
-only the audio of the puck hitting the boards and the edge works of the skates on the ice.

less is more.

Hockey doesn't have enough interesting personalities or insightful analysts in it for me to ever consider or be intrigued by something like this. If it had the same level of analysis NFL or NBA personalities provide, then sure.

Other than the iso feeds and overlayed stats it seems like your concept relies on ignoring that elephant in the room which is 90% of the foundation for this idea.

Only if a smoker/bbq meal is included by yourself, bud.

This is surely where things are going, MLB has already discussed that they want to produce all the games themselves once all the cable carriage deals end, and either stream themselves or sell streaming rights to one provider.

If VR takes off (like Apple Vision Pro) ... maybe.

Because then you're going to have a third viewing option effectively for people.

Being at the game physically, watching on TV, and then VR is like in between those two.

NHl's fairly unique problem is that the better commentators are plying trade in US, on TNT, ESPN, whatever, rather than toiling for a shit Snet product. We're seeing the dregs here in the Canadian content telecasts. That wasn't always the case but is this milennium
