Imagine if you will, my perfect viewing experience "Oilers Platinum"

Every game in 4K - Both Streaming and on a 4K channel assessable by your Cable Provider

More Camera angles, with your choice to lock on one or play like a typical game.

Live statistics throughout the night, if you care to also have on your screen.

Main host and commentators pre game, intermission, and post game; also several side tables (like trade deadline coverage).

Individual Side Table discussion (with experts) includes "Analytics", "Betting" (I hate but its now the culture), "Around the League", "Coaching Breakdown". and "Community Corner".

During what would typically be a normal commercial break the main host goes to individual specialty tables, or a quick hit from the main panel.

Post Game coverage of 1 hr minimum to :90 min.

Also: Not kids on these panels or side tables (unless an analytics or betting specialist) but actual professionals.

So: what would be the highest you would pay for this type of service?

I would put out $1K a year to get this.

After the feed kick-out of a paid stream with crappy production horrible music, stuttering...I'm in a "Ok? You want to screw me? Then screw me good and I'm willing to pay. But this better be worth it"

I would pay $500 a year to watch every league game on a feed with no animated board ads. But in reality, can we trust the team or cable/streaming provider that they wouldn't just monumentally screw it up, like they have with their streaming so far.

Throw in a projector with a 130" screen and all of this sounds very good to me. At $1K per year this is about the cost of 3 or four games for a single seat in the lower bowl.

My idea of a premium service is a live camera feed with no commentary, no commercials, no panels of pundits giving you their take, no interviews, no play by play, no post games, no reporters, no dumb statistics plastered all over the place(everyone has the internet now), Just the pure experience of rink and crowd noise that mimics being at the game on my nice big 4k TV with the occasional checks on my phone or computer for stats when I need it. If they managed to make it competitive with your average yearly cable subscription and could guarantee decent quality over the internet I would have to consider it as only reason I even have a cable subscription anymore is to watch hockey games, regular TV with all it's obnoxious advertisements and dearth of actual content has collapsed as a medium for me a long time ago.

I wouldn't pay any amount money for OP's proposal, more droning from corporate talking heads, reporters, and has-been players is a completely uninteresting prospect for me, there is already too much of that in modern broadcasts. I watched the entire last season on mute due to Singh/Micheals/Debrusk, and will have to do so again this year.

So pay extra $ for a bunch of stuff I can get for free on my phone as I watch the game but I also get the added bonus of listening to a bunch of boneheads talk about it even more during the game and for longer after. Does it come with a free catheter insertion because I'm so excited I might wet myself.

You should be able to get a digital stream where you can pick the audio. So, any language or even no play by play audio at all.

But what I want is that you should be able to get sportsnet on any streaming platform. I didn't check this year but if I wanted it away from cable last year I needed a fire stick, not on my roku. Like wth? Why not welcome any customer with a wad of cash?

There definitely is a bright future one day where the cable thing and broadcast rights and blackouts just evaporates away. Cash for streams, with no limits or borders

In all seriousness, If i had an option to spend my money directly with Oilers rather than going through a telecom as a middle man I would probably be in favor for it.

Also I spent 56$ on 3 slices of pizza, 3 drinks and a kit kat bar at the game yesterday so at the same time screw you Oilers.

My experience with the discounted Oilers + has been awful This preseason.

I would not pay a lot of money for Platinum unless it was trialed and proven to be bug free. My concern is that the product would be unreliable and frustrating To use.

I have no interest on spending that kind of money on my TV experience. Am quite happy spending $100 a year on NHL.tv and being able to watch any NHL game any time at high quality instead

So has mine, which prompted the thought, “what would be the best experience?”

Buuuuut…..lol, looks like I’m on my own planet on this one. The same planet that also has me liking the Heritage Classic jersey.

They seem to be doing this with VR for MMA and some Basketball games. If they did this for hockey I'd pay a pretty penny.

So now you can sit in your TV pit surrounded by your 180" digital wonder and get 20 percent off your favorite case of beer and 20 percent off whichever pizza provider they hook up with every game night. All with free delivery.

The franchise is not actually putting any effort into the broadcast for Oilers+, they just streamed the scoreboard feeds or tapped into some other network's feed. It's exactly what they've done for the last last decade for free, they just paywalled this time to scrape for some easy money from the fanbase for something they were going to do anyways.

A real premium service that broadcasts games would require actual effort, or they would risk alienating the customer base.

I can play less than 200 and get every Blue Jays game, every Oilers game and more. No thanks.

Honestly not meant as a troll thread, although it’s apparent some have taken it that way. If this existed, it would suit me to a T.
This could well be a generational thing. If you are use to consuming content on your phone or laptop, then what you propose may seem bizarre. But in a proper set-up what you describe can be an amazing experience.

I was a STH for years and would not trade that experience for any such set-up. But I paid less than $1000 per year (playoffs and food included) to watch perhaps the best team in history win championships after championship. The equivalent seat to mine right now is priced at $9693.18 for 39 games. Add in playoffs and we are talking $25K+ for a pair. For that money over two years you could build an amazing home theatre and have enough left over to pay for your package for a decade.

This is the key difference between what @Bobieque is talking about and what I think people are envisioning. It's the difference between watching Oppenheimer on a full IMAX screen and on your phone. The product is the same, but the experience is very very different.

Not really though. We get to see Oppenheimer in full imax either way. We just aren’t interested in paying an extra x10 to also see the bluray bonus features in imax.

Although maybe you’re comparing current oilers plus to the OPs idea rather than what you can get watching a regular game to the OPs idea.

To answer the OPs question, I’m not interested in paying for content (post game analysis, interviews etc) that we should be getting for free.

I haven't spent a penny to watch Oilers games for the last 3-4 years, and I haven't missed 10 regular season or playoff games. It's not because I'm cheap or I can't afford it..it's because I hold a fairly deep resentment towards blackouts and commercials. I also don't watch a single thing aside from hockey, in real time. I might watch 5-10 movies a year either on Netflix or at the theater and there isn't a single tv show or news/sports channel that I care about.

For me to pay for any type of cable package would be a complete waste of money. My wife and kids watch everything they want via the 3-4 main streaming services that we have.

I watch every Oilers game either through a family members cable package, logged in through the app or web, or through a nefarious means that many of you guys know about.

All of that said, if there were an actual package available to stream (I don't care to watch on a television, I'd much rather be more interactive and watch on a computer) I would 100% be willing to pay for it. The absolute line in the sand would be the quality/dependability of the stream and a complete lack of blackouts.

Until someone can offer a high reliable quality stream that doesn't blackout a single Oilers game, I'll continue along with this parrot on my shoulder. If I'm paying to watch the Oilers I'm not at all willing to deal with a clunky or slow interface, I can already do that for free.
