Convincing their goal-scorer supposedly better than Ovechkin that just because playoff goals don’t count towards his regular season total doesn’t mean that they don’t matter.
That Matthews scored 1 goal in this series after almost 70 in the regular season cannot be explained by coaching.
Tavares and Marner need to go.
JT has one more year left on his deal, Leafs should deal that somewhere.
Marner needs to be gone, another year of nothing.
If I was Toronto, I’d be building around Nylander and Matthews. Nylander has that dawg in him. And while Matthews doesn’t seem to play his best when the playoffs come around, he’s a beyond-special talent.
Marner is someone Toronto needs to get far far away from NOW
They'll try and trade marner with cap retained. I mean they won't get anything that can help right now aside from cap space. Just some prospect maybe a low pick.
What is marner going to garner in a trade though? High cap hit, winger. Would have to be traded for a similar player that needs a change of scenery, perhaps.
Moving Marner out and allocating the money elsewhere is what I think the correct move is. Obviously injuries were a big part in the series I don’t think the Leafs are terribly far off. But something has gotta change.
I’d say Tavares too to have even more space but I don’t see that happening
From an outsider’s perspective, I think the Leafs should fire Keefe, trade Marner, and try to offload Tavares as well. Focus on bringing in a solid goalie, a top 4 dman and build out the forward depth.
