Semi Charmed Life and Cannonball were the most 90's songs possible. I still dig them.

The best song of the 80's was Godflesh's Streetcleaner

John Frusciante - As Can Be
Diamanda Galas - Dancing In the Dark*
Marc Ribot - Black Trombone
Mr. Bungle - Ma Meeshka Mow Skwoz
...
The rest would require some research. Certainly something by Cardiacs, something by Slayer (Raining Blood, maybe), most probably something by Renaud (Mistral gagnant?), Maybe something by Bicycle Thief (Tennis Shoes, or Hurt), oh certainly something by Tom Waits,... that's tough. Albums I'm used to rank, but I listen to a lot of stuff that doesn't really register as "songs", so I don't know.

Edit: probably Come to Daddy by Aphex Twin.

It seems wrong to wrest songs from albums from the 80s going forward because the 70s was the end of the prominence of the single for me. It was all about albums after about 1980. Maybe it's just my personal bias for the 80s and 90s.

As a 90s kid it's practically impossible to name 10 songs. That decade was so wonderful in terms of music, so many different styles and so many easy guilty pleasures that I still love today, also had the rise of my favourite electronic genre (trance), and the glory days of my favourite post rock band.. I'll give it a shot.

1) Porcupine Tree, but it's an impossible choice between The Sky Moves Sideways and Voyage 34 (Phase I), the two greatest experimental post rock songs ever composed IMO
2) Pearl Jam's Black for mostly personal reasons
3) Laura Pausini's La Solitudine which was my favourite soft/romantic song as a kid and still a huge guilty pleasure
4) Roxette was my favourite band as a kid, but again, hard to choose 1 song. Ever since Marie Fredriksson's death I've kinda been re-discovering them, watching a lot of live shows from their early days. There's a version of Marie doing Spending My Time on a piano that I truly love, Fading Like A Flower is great choice as well
5) Some Argentine latin rock with Enanitos Verdes and their song Luz de dia which kinda has become a summer chill out anthem with me and my friends. Always gets you in the mood
6) Not a real metal fan but gotta go with an Anathema song here, because they put a certain kind of melancholy in their music which I love. Some days I think Parisienne Moonlight is their best, other days I would go with Fragile Dreams
7) Gorecki by Lamb. Always gives me chills.
8) Might go with Nick Cave here, surely have to have one of his songs, so probably....The Ship Song
9) For the last two spots I'm going to trance, with first the greatest classic IMO which is Café del Mar by Energy 52. It has been remixed so many times by now that young people today probably wouldn't recognize the original sadly, because it's still the best version out there
10) Solarstone might have been my favourite 90s trance group overall, with their legendary anthems Seven Cities (which might have one of the most beautiful melodies) and Solar Coaster (which was famous for having the 'True Romance' sample) as my top songs of them

80s I'm not even gonna try lol. I recently compiled a top 100 of my favourite songs for some website and I think I had like two 80's song in them so yeah. Probably my least favourite decade of both movies and music.
