How would you define classic rock? Is it any rock music from the 1960's to the late 1970's? Are you including progressive rock (Genesis, Yes - Pink Floyd always seems to get a pass) and/or heavy metal (Sabbath, Priest, etc)?

With that definition in mind, here are my first impressions (I'll give a dozen instead of ten):

  • Yes - "Gates of Delirium"
  • Wishbone Ash - "Throw Down the Sword"
  • Thin Lizzy - "Emerald"
  • Judas Priest - "Victim of Changes"
  • Black Sabbath - "War Pigs"
  • Led Zeppelin - "When The Levee Breaks"
  • The Who - "Won't Get Fooled Again"
  • Pink Floyd - "Time"
  • Camel - "Lady Fantasy"
  • Deep Purple - "Highway Star"
  • Emerson, Lake & Palmer - "Tarkus"

Do you plan to do an '80s/'90s era top ten? That would be fun to figure out, too.

The problem with classic rock songs from this era is that disco ruled these decades and was better in every single way compared to any other genre.

Hard to pick a single song for some of these bands. Or if they are always classic rock/metal. And I don’t know if these are my favourites or just the ones I am most likely to go out of my way to listen to.

Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap - AC/DC
War Pigs - Black Sabbath
Union City Blues - Blondie
Barracuda - Heart
Kashmir - Led Zeppelin
Killer Queen - Queen
Fox on the Run - Sweet
I Wanna Be Sedated -The Ramones
Cherry Bomb - The Runaways
Baba O’Riley - The Who
