Gaudreau doesn't have bad linemates. But he doesn't have top tier talent to play with like most other top scorers in the league.

Umm? That's pretty wide open. There are dozens of centers who are better than Monahan.

What's wrong with taking OV over Benn? Last 3 seasons in order:

Benn:
--2nd, 1st, 5th AST
--12th, 3rd, n/a hart voting
--ross

Ovechkin:
--1st, 2nd, 3rd AST
--2nd, 6th, 12th hart voting
--2x rocket

2 seasons where Ovechkin was clearly better, 1 for Benn. If we go back 1 extra year then it's 2-2, every other season before that is OV. So far this season it's been OV too so I don't get what your issue is with that?

19 points in 17 games that playoff, 85 points in 74 games the next season, 23 points in 15 games this season. He's been amazing for a while now.
