Just writing my post (above) pisses me off!

The kids on here will find it hard to believe that there was a time -- as late as the early 1990s, and in some ways even into the 2000s -- when Edmonton was considered the gold-standard of hockey franchises. Circa 1990 we were talking about Edmonton as the equivalent of the Montreal Canadiens as the winningest and most respected franchise in pro-hockey. Even into the 2000s, I remember Sports Illustrated (I think) ranking the Oilers as the 2nd or 3rd-best pro-sports franchise in all of North American sports.

Now, it's gone the opposite direction to where they're the Bad News Bears of the NHL.

such a mind blowing stat it is beyond insane, there is no player who dominated their sport like Gretzky did, people are going to bring up Jordan, Ruth, whoever, but Gretzky is in a league by himself

Jahangir Khan is the most dominant athlete in history. His dominance over the sport of squash throughout the 1980s cannot be matched. From 1981 to 1986 he went unbeaten, which is an incredible achievement given the regularity of squash matches. In that time, he was undefeated in 555 matches, a record which stands in the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest winning streak by any athlete in top-level professional sport. Kahn won the World Open six times and the British Open ten times. Jahangir Kahn once won the World Championships without dropping a single game, an indication of his sheer dominance.

Winning 555 squash matches in a row does not have an equivalent in any sport period. The closest my mind can get in regards to hockey would be if a player went on a 3 season point streak.

He's got a great name too

I found this kinda funny, the Stanley Cup has a fair amount spelling errors on it lol. Lots of them detailed in this article but here's a picture of the "Toronto Maple Leaes" engravment lol

Most goals scored by an NHL rookie in their first game......wait for it.....

Its a 2 way tie for Joe Malone and Harry Hyland of the Montreal Canadiens who each scored 5 goals in their NHL debut.

Habs, eh?

Probably accomplished on home ice so by logical deduction, they must have been all Powerplay goals. ;)

From February 7, 1974, through February 2, 1989, the Pittsburgh Penguins were 0–39–3 at the Philadelphia Spectrum.

Yes, a 42-game winless streak in their cross-state rival's building.

Helmets only became mandatory in the NHL in August 1979, 62 years after the league formed. The last player to play without a helmet was Craig MacTavish in 96-97, 80 years after the start of the NHL.

The Flames moved to Calgary in 1980, starting a natural rivalry with Edmonton.

From 1980 to spring 1986, Edmonton was 29-8-7 against Calgary.

From fall 1986 to mid-1995, Edmonton was 18-41-6 against Calgary.

For those curious, according to Wiki the record is now 117–98–18 in favor of the Flames.

In an 11-1 blowout against the Senators in 1994, Brett Hull, who had 2 assists in the game and was in his prime, didn't register a shot on goal.

The St Louis Blues made it to the Stanley Cup finals their fist 3 years in existence.
Well yeah, but that's because the League was in 2 divisions with 100% expansion teams (like St.Louis) in one division.

In 1981-82, Wayne Gretzky had a 40-goal season.... even if he had never played a single shift whatsoever in the 1st or 2nd periods of any game the entire season.

Buffalo doesn't have a goal from a defenseman. It took them 19 games until one scored last season as well.

The most shots on goal in a game was by Boston in 1941 with 83

The fewest shots on goal was by Toronto in 2000 with 6.

Buffalo sports have zero wins in their last 10 games. 3 straight losses for the Bills, 7 straight losses for the Sabres

Both teams also have the same number of wins, which is absolutely horrible for the Sabres.
