I dunno if this is out of place for me to start this thread so please delete if it is.

But I wanted to start a more casual thread of what tv shows, movies, YT videos people are watching here and a place for people to discuss and share them in a more casual setting. I noticed theres a lot individual threads for TV shows and movies that are currently airing or about to air but wanted to start something where people can discuss other shows, and movies that may be older or out of date or not even worth their own thread, Or just drop in and share a simple sentence as "yo i just saw Barbie in theaters and loved it" and thats it and move on.

Like for me I just finished watching the show Rome a bit ago and wanted to talk about it here but didnt really have a place for it or i just missed the thread and its buried deep within HFs archives of threads. Now back to Rome, Ive never seen it and the only reason why i started watching it is because of the late and great Ray Stevenson. Ive been really enjoying his character in another tv show that made me wanna explore his other work. Rome for me was a really enjoyable show with some good politics and pretty good acting in it, its a shame it only lasted 2 seasons but i can understand why it got cancelled because of its budget with the bad*** sets they have, the fantastic costume designs they had, and how many actors and actresses they had to pay, i can only imagine how expensive it was to make. One thing i really liked about the show is that it didnt made one single character overly likeable, everyone one had their faults and reasons as to why you should like them. Pullo and Vorenus were probably my most liked characters with Pullo being number one. But again both those characters had their faults, Pullo killing a man over jealously, using his friend for money and a place to stay in the beginning parts. Vorenus was likeable until he wished his kids into slavery and prostitution. He was a good man and it seemed like he tried to do the right things but always got screwed over by society kinda reminded me of Ned Stark in GoT but not nearly the man Ned was. Atia and Servilia were easily the most unlikable characters for me and both of whom were petty petty humans and their actions spoke for themselves. All in all i really enjoyed it i just wish it lasted longer then 2 seasons.

Now the last 2 days i started Peaky Blinders and holy smokes what a good show. I really love shows about gangsters (loved Boardwalk Empire) so this show is pretty much right up my ally. Love the brains of Tommy Shelby and feel like Cillian Murphy does a really good job at his role. Love Aunt Pol (RIP Helen, gone way too soon) and feel like Helen does a great job at her role. So far i dont think 1 person has been miscast or have done a bad acting job. PS i knew the inspector (names escaping me) from the start had a thing for Grace from the start, Dude was all creppy over her when theyd meet up. Cant believe this show has been going on for 10 years now and im just getting around to it and cant wait to see where it goes later on in the seasons.

Dunno if this thread will gain any traction if it doesnt oh well i guess atleast i tried. And agin if there is already a thread like this please lemme know so i can post there and please delete it if i shouldnt be creating threads like this.

I have alot of downtime at work and they don't care if I watch shows so I've been catching up alot of 00s shows this year. I too recently watched Rome and thought it was fantastic. Within a month of me watching it is when Stevenson passed...the same thing happened with The Wire and Reddick, actually.

I'm currently in the second season of Six Feet Under and while it's a great show it's a bit heavy to binge watch.

The Wire is on my list of shows to watch as well. Ive heard people say its one of the best shows theyve seen but starts to decline after the first couple seasons.

Just finished Homicide: Life on the Street. Much like the Wire, it suffered from iffy ratings by virtue of being way ahead of its time, though it is still distinctly a network television procedural. Obviously, it is sort of a spiritual prequel to The Wire, based on David Simon's book and with Simon co-writing many of the later episodes.

It was particularly funny watching this series after binging a bit of Brooklyn 9-9, since Andre Braugher is the breakout star here, stealing just about every scene. Kyle Secor's Tim Bayliss, the ostensible main character of the series, has a bit of a rocky start but grows into his role, becoming a great foil for Braugher's Frank Pembleton.

The series had a lot of turnover, with the network demanding younger, hotter detectives like Jon Seda and Michael Michele (hard to believe that Jon Polito didn't stir their loins). The latter is a particular drain on the show in the last season. By the time the final season airs, only three regulars are still in the cast. Nevertheless, the writing is generally strong enough to overcome the changes, which is no small feat.

While there were plenty of episodes where the good guys win, the hallmark of the show was its occasional grim endings and moral grey areas. Season 4's "A Doll's Eyes" might be the most devastating episode of broadcast TV I have ever watched. Much like The Wire, Homicide often wrestles with the systemic issues in the Baltimore criminal justice system, though it obviously can't take the same sort of deep dive.

On the whole, the series is a very enjoyable procedural that tries its best to paint a realist picture of Baltimore while working within network confines. Kind of a shame that it has become a bit of a forgotten show. The movie, by the way, is kind of a mess, as they try to cram in an appearance from literally every character who had been in the show.

Fun piece of trivia: NBC was unimpressed with the first season ratings and was only willing to give the show a four-episode second season. Robin Williams was a big fan of the show, and previously worked with Barry Levinson in Good Morning Vietnam, and offered to guest star in an episode. The episode was a huge success, ensuring a future for the show. Had Homicide not continued, Levinson & Simon would never had had the opportunity to film the Wire. So just in case you didn't like Robin Williams enough, you can also thank him for The Wire.

Watching Demon Slayer (finally!) and going through Studio Ghibli movies each night before bed. Trying to make time for more anime this fall/winter. (^∇^)ノ♪

Just finished watching The Saint of Second Chances on Netflix. I’m always looking for new documentaries to watch and I’m not too picky on the subject. If it’s done well, I can get into it. Not much of a baseball fan but it was a great story, I really enjoyed it.

I've been watching Welcome to Wrexham on FX. Not sure how similar it is but it's a solid running sports doc. I think there are certain aspects that could be better but overall I appreciate that the focus is on the local fans of a small market team (trying to work their way up to greater prominence under the English relegation system) and the players rather than the A-list actors who bought the team. Helps keep it from feeling like a vanity project.

I think even non soccer fans can enjoy it as long as there's some understanding of a sport's team's impact on local communities and family connections.

Yeah, that sounds interesting. Don’t have FX but I believe it’s on Disney+, I’ll have to check it out. Appreciate the recommendation.

Watching TONS of Survivor. Been watching a few seasons pretty much back-to-back... Philippines, Kaoh Rong, Heroes vs. Villains, Tocantins, now I'm on to Game Changers. As well as the current season 45 of course.

My wife has put together these seasons to lead up to Winners at War, so I'm looking forward to. Really fueling my desire to start trying to get on the show, to be honest.

Agreed, it's way too heavy to watch more than an episode or two a night. I watched one episode every couple/few days (so not really binging) and enjoyed reflecting on each episode for a while.

So I’m a few episodes in of Peaky Blinders S2 and one thing that I’m struggling with a bit is the Irish politics going on. I’m admittedly pretty ignorant when it comes to the Irish civil war so when they’re talking about treaties and sides in the show it kinda goes over a head a bit for me. Enjoying the season very much so though so far. It does remind me a lot of Boardwalk Empire but it really shouldn’t be too different considering they’re both shows about gangsters during the 1920s.

I've been getting in to a bunch of old aussie shows , older ones like sea patrol , blue healers, rescue. Fire flies , I prefer the slower pace and I dislike shows with the camera changing every 2 seconds or shakey, or drama music or sounds 3x louder than the dialog that seems to be the trend in American television the last forever.

I absolutely love Welcome to Wrexham, while it's about soccer you don't need to know or even like soccer to appreciate how well done it is. There are episodes about people involved with the team whether it's fans or players that are heart breaking and inspiring.

You just want to see this team do well for the city and it's fans and it's players.

I've actually been watching their games and I eventually want to see a game over there now too because of it.

I gotta say though the most recent episode was a big waste. I can't even remember what it was about but it felt like it was barely about anything of substance. When it ended all I could think was "okay then". Edit: Episode 6 about the women's squad was strong though, just watched.

But for the most part it's outstanding stuff and I'm right there with you. I haven't actually gotten a chance to watch their games yet but I've been keeping an eye on them and their table. Long distance casual fan.

Do you like Roman history?

Do you like HBO’s Rome?

Do you like 300?

Do you like seasons 5-8 of Game of Thrones?

Do you like soft pornography?

If the answer is yes, then give this one a shot. 6.5/10, 9.5/10 finale, 7.5 overall.

Who ever would have thought these idiots would be one of the greatest gifts to humanity, the newest movie is great.

Yeah, the new movie was funny. I've thought the whole rebooted series has been good. I like their added iterations, middle-aged Beavis & Butthead, smart Beavis & Butthead..

Newest animated series we're watchin' is Krapopolis. Typical FOX cartoon humor. A blended, ancient family.. part deities, part mortal. It's on their Animation Domination bloc, but we're streaming later on Hulu.

I'll have to check this out. Just finished watching Rome and really enjoyed it.

Does it have the politics like Rome does or is it more of an action adventure show?

Been blasting through Peaky Blinders, been a really addicting show. Finished up S3 a day or 2 ago and binged watched like 4 or 5 episodes of S4 yesterday.

I enjoyed S3 a lot but also feel like it was poorly written or they had too much going on in that season for me, maybe it was because i was binge watching and didnt have enough time to marinate and think about the episodes i just watched. I feel like this show could of benefited from an 8 episode run per season but thats just me. Im also a bit ignorant on politics going on in the show with the Russian Civil War i found myself constantly looking stuff up about it in order to get a better idea of it.

S4 im also enjoying a lot but feel like it plateaued a bit about half way through the season the last couple episodes are set up to be pretty good though it seems like.

Also surprised Alfie is still around

Masters of the Air the 3rd installment in Steven Spielbergs and Tom Hanks WW2 trilogy finally got a premier date of January 26th.
