Let me try and make an analogy for people who wont look up advaced stats.

Batting average is like counting how much money you have by counting the total number of bills.

OPS is counting how much total money you have.

wRC+ is like comparing how much money you have relative to everyone else.

So if you were to look at Revere and say he has the most $1 bills of anyone out there. Lets say he has ten $1 bills out of a possible 30 for a grand total of $10.

Bautista has only 7 bills out of a possible 30, but he has three 5's and four 1's for a grand total of $19 (almost double Revere).

The average person in our league has $12. So judging by that, Revere has 83% what the average is or a "83". Bautista has 158% of the average or "158".

So with these numbers

Revere would have a .333 average, $10 and is 17% more poor than the average player.

Bautista would have a .233 average, $19 and is 53% richer than the average player.

Who do you think is more valuable?
